Austin (TX) St. Andrew's Episcopal School QB and solid Hurricane commitment Preston Dewey got an in-home visit from offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch on Monday night.

With a loose interpretation of the "in home."

Dewey and his parents met with Fisch for a brief time at their house before heading out to a favorite Tex-Mex restaurant.

"We're in Texas, so we had to have Tex-Mex," said Dewey's father, Mike.

The family dined on fajitas at Abuelos while talking football.

"It went great," Mike Dewey said. "We were together about three hours. We talked about where they think the program is headed, how Preston fits in.

"Preston is excited. Even though they've come through some difficult times they have a great vibe going over there. You can feel the excitement. He's excited about it. We've been talking about him coming in and competing, being a contributing part of that team."

Dewey will take his official visit to Miami the weekend of Dec. 10. Dewey hopes to graduate early and be on campus in January.

Of their impression of Fisch, Mike Dewey said, "He's a great guy. We think the world of him and Al (Golden). What an incredibly difficult year they've just come through.

"The folks at Miami have been awesome to deal with. The entire staff over there is absolutely first rate. We were talking about the recruiting process, all of the schools that Preston visited and everyone recruiting him. It's been an exciting time. And we think and feel strongly that the Miami staff is as good as any staff in the country."



Think they ought to have taken him to some good Texas BBQ, but I guess I'm just old fashioned like that.

Thanks for posting. I love hearing the positive feedback from the recruits' families...makes you realize just how much effort these coaches put forth on a daily basis.

I hope Dewey is able to come in January...would be a bonus for our ability to add another kid in feb and for our QB depth.

Not in my book. We have other QBs in this class, and a few more years of Morris and Williams, worst case. The desperate needs in this class are DB, DT, WR and RB (assuming Miller goes). Anyhow, Duke Johnson is the most important recruit in this class, because he's the best player in the class, and the best RB we've brought in since Gore.
 
Its tough to call him the most important recruit in this class but I wouldnt call it a crazy comment by any stretch. Top shelf, Elite 11 QBs dont commit with regularity.

Would you guys say that QB recruiting has historically been our most inconsistent and/or most difficult? I think I would.
 
Just like in the NFL, hitting or missing on a franchise QB will make or break your program, that's why, after missing with so many 'elite' prospects we cannot afford to miss again...we are way too close for comfort to becoming a second tier team which will make the rebuild 10x harder

I have seen his film and it's pretty impressive (Duke's), but dude is a buck seventy with pads on. Realistically, how much do you think he can put on? Also, do you guys who follow this recruiting stuff think he's a kid that can come in and break it open right away ala Lattimore or Watkins? Bc, that's the way these people are talking about him. Not trying to flame, just wanting to know from someone who knows what they're talking about.

That may be true in the NFL, if so it's because "missing" on a franchise qb means you blew a top of the first round pick on him. Nothing like that is the case in college. We are in fact bringing in three qbs in this class, and bring at least one in in every class, save some mix-up of cokeresque proportions. Some people actually think Thompson os the better prospect between him and Dewey. And dewey's not a top 10 qb prospect in america, in any case. Meanwhile, the qbs we have on the roster (Morris and Williams) are likely to be the guys playing next year, and it's as likely as not we have a higher regarded prospect than Dewey coming in a year from now at the qb spot (Olson perhaps).

Meanwhile, without miller we're both shallow and under talented at rb. Johnson may be small, but a lot of people think he's the best prospect in Florida hands down. Warrick dunn is the name that comes pumas a comparison.

Agreed, gives him a jump on the playbook. I honestly feel pretty good about Morris and Williams so I'm hoping that we can redhsirt Dewey, Crow and Thompson if he actually does play football.
 
Oklahoma is really close to offering Preston Dewey. Just passing along the info.

Probably too late in the process and OU has depth there. Having said that, permanately shut down The U if they get him.
 
Don't think it will matter. Dewey seems to be one of the most solidly committed recruits.
