I went back and watched a lot of Jameis Winstons games, and needless to say he had a heck of a year in 2013, but I believe he will have a set back year in 2014 and heres why:

For starters, there wasn't a more dominant receiver in college football this past season than Kelvin Benjiman. Benjiman was simply too good for college with his Calvin Johnson esqe ability. There was no corner in college who could cover him one on one which caused defenses to roll coverage to his side more often than not, which also caused Rashaad Greene or Kenny Shaw to have one on one coverages. But when Benjiman did have one on one coverage, Winston could simply lob it up to him at any point on the field and it was, of course high percentage that Benjiman would come down with it. You just can't gameplan for Benjiman, especially when he wasn't the only weapon.

Secondly, Kenny Shaw was thee best slot receiver in the ACC. His route running/catching ability is elite and when Winston went through his progressions and couldn't find Benjiman or Greene, it was high percentage that Shaw was open as he has a knack for finding open windows to sit in. Kenny Shaw to me, will have a long productive career in the NFL. I can just imagine the Patriots drafting him to be Tom Brady's new go-to-guy.

I'll conclude that, yes they bring back Rashaad Greene and he is pretty good, but after Greene there aren't any proven receivers. There is no Benjiman who you can simply just "lob it up" to, and there is no Kenny "I keep them chains moving" Shaw. Winston will have to think and go through his progressions way more and longer than he did last season. No question that Winston has the goods, but as a result of not having Benjiman and Shaw, I will bet that he will face the adversity that should have faced as a freshman. I think he will throw more picks, get hit a lot more, look more confused and not look so "unphaseable" if you will. Like I said, he undoubtedly has got the goods, but he will go through the rigors in 2014

And oh, they better hope Karlos Williams can be "the guy" and not just the guy who racked up all those yards in mop up duty, because there isn't any proven backs either with the departure of Freeman and Wilder.

If by sophmore slump, you mean that he will only be first team ACC and maybe an All American. Then, maybe you are right.

Delusional.........
Winston is accurate and his ability to move with in the pocket is elite, he would shine with mediocre WRs, the problem is that FSU is loaded. The WRs they have are all very talented and they have a talented backfield. The scary thing about FSU is that their elite DL talent is entering their third year. Goldman, Edwards and Casher are gonna be scray good. I hope we can somehow pull one out at home next year, hey stranger things have happened but if you really expect them and Winston to have a slump, you are in for a disappointment.

Naw the kid is going to ball... Their best wideout return and O'leary will get more touches... Some of their young wideouts will get more burn... I can see Whitefield in the slot as well as Christian Jones on the opposite side of Greene... They will still be efficient... Greene could do everything on the field... He's just small... Benjamin was a nightmare and his absence would be felt but Winston will be smart enough to adjust... I mean he torched his own defense last year starting the spring game on the third team with a walk-on wideout... He'll be fine...

Now we just have to work hard and beat them...

I agree. Just to add to your point, the kid is one of the most fierce competitors I have ever seen, on any level. He's the kind of players that makes everyone around him better.

LOLOLOL...he can only get better bro...

Last i checked for every kid he loses he gaines an even more talented kid...

SOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I am not sure where this analysis came from...

It is VERY easy for a QB to look great when you have a beastly wideout like Benjiman and a savvy veteren like Shaw. I'm not saying that Winston is going to all out flop. I'm saying that his production will drop as a result of losing those guys. He was not challenged that much last year because honestly, there wasn't a clear cut way to just defend them. Yes he is very accurate, but those receivers outside of Greene still have show and prove that there will not be a drop off, which I doubt there won't be because they are not proven.

I can argue that he made those players better... Benjamin has been at FSU for 3 years and didn't do anything until year... Shaw didn't do much until this year... The common factor is that Winston made them better... I'm sure he'll make another stud just as dynamic...

Only thing that takes Winston out of it is if the civil suit against him gets real legs and unveils that he's guilty. Otherwise he'll be way better, or just as deadly with different talent.

Agreed. The argument for why he may "slump" was valid, but that slump would just mean he's a very, very good QB instead of an amazing one.

Good bet Texas A&M folks would differ on the most dominant receiver.

Evans in a large part made Manziel what he was. Manziel made throw after throw during the season that was outright bad and ill-advised, and would in most situations have been interceptions or at least incompletions. However, Evans bailed him out countless times with his height and athleticism. While Greene did the same for Winston to some degree, Winston was never as reckless and sloppy with the ball as Manziel.

OP is not delusional. RG is the guy he looks to the most when he gets in trouble. He makes a lot of plays for them. Next year Greene will be double teamed and he will have to find someone else to throw to. A totally unproven someone..... DC's will take Greene away after watching film of this past year.

He will not have a sophomore slump because the kid has the right DNA. Very poised and self-confident. If he can survive a rape allegation and still perform like he did then the ACC has no chance to stop him.

I hope not. The sooner we get him out of FSU and (Treon Harris in) the sooner UM will have a shot at getting back on top of the state.
