Prediction for final depth chart

Carter should come in first over both Rogers and Highsmith. Gilbert will jump Green imo and please dont forget about Hamilton that kid wants it. Could he jump Chick? I think Ambrister will start over Fig however i we could see Fig, Ambrister and DP playing at the sametime if Gaines keeps making tackles 5 yards deep like last year. We need to get our best players on the field

Hurns is a steady guy and a quality kid, but Herb Waters appears to have spent the off-season training next to a nuclear power plant.

Herb has always been a kid that just keeps coming no matter what people say about him. No offer, no worries, just kept going to camps until the coaches had to offer him. People question his skills and he just keeps working and starts making some plays at the end of the year. Everyone's through the roof over Coley, and all the other WR's and Waters just keeps working and turns into one of the stars of greentree. Kid has that chip on his shoulder and love his compete level.

Hurns will play a big role. Hurns seemed to have the most chemistry with Morris last year of our WRs except maybe Lewis prior to the injury. Honestly I don't know what it matters who starts though. Guys will probably be rotating in and out constantly. Dorsett is the only WR see not coming off much mostly bc of his ability to stretch the field

What does "final" mean? For FAMU, or end of season?

WR: I would be shocked if Golden doesn't go with Hurns and Dorsett to start against FAMU, and agree that Waters in the slot makes more sense for now than Lewis (not enough reps since injury) and Coley (too new). It's not just about receiving, it's also about knowing the playbook, route-running, and especially blocking. And those require experience and reps.

TE: Walford has to be #1, given end of last season and his progress in the camps. The interesting battle is who is #2? Despite all the talk about Cleveland being much improved, I don't recall him on any of the camp highlights. I could see Cleveland ahead of Beau for FAMU, but expect him to overtake him during the season at some point, as he is the more talented receiver. He needs to prove he can block first.

OL: Bunche is #6, but he'll see as many snaps as all the rest

DE: Green will start against FAMU opposite Chick. Gilbert will start by game 4. D'O is going to throw so many different looks at us, though, that I expect to see a lot of Pierre and AQM

DT: Porter and Pierre ... L-Rob ... everyone else. Kamalu will be 4th man in by game 3. I don't see Renfrow able to crack that rotation, and think King may be able to stay ahead of him in the depth chart. Hope they shirt Hamilton.

LB: Perryman and Gaines are locked in. I am so impressed by how far Gaines has come along. But we forget how young he is. Wish we had been able to shirt him, smh. Regardless, he'll hold off Kirby for one more season. Figs is such a force that I don't see how Armbrister stays ahead of him for more than a couple games. But I think Armbrister starts vs. FAMU to settle the defense, as he has the experience. McCord will see a lot of time in the 3-4 set.

CB: Gunter and Crawford will start against FAMU, but I expect a lot of change over the season. Gunter is hitting a ceiling from the camp highlights and what I've read. I think Howard overtakes him by Game 3. Crawford is out of position too much but will stay on the field because of his closing speed. Dortch flashes but is too inconsistent needs more development physically. I think Burns overtakes him for #4, especially as he has the speed and can spell Crawford. End of year should look like Howard/Crawford, Gunter/Burns with Dortch as the journeyman.

SS: Unfortunately, I expect us to go Bush and Rodgers. We NEED Bush healthy, so I wouldn't be surprised if we sit him or use him very lightly vs. FAMU to make sure he is ready to go vs. UF. He's the only consistently good safety on roster right now. I was one of the last ones to write off Rodgers and Highsmith, hoping the light would go on during their senior season. But after seeing their performance in the camp and scrimmage highlights, their peak performance is clearly no better than Telemaque. The problem is that Jenkins is out of position way too much. And Carter hasn't stepped up like Burns did over at CB. So we're still gapped out there. By game 4, we need the depth to be Bush/Jenkins, Rodgers/Carter, or we should be concerned.
