Potential Portal OL

Obvious we need a Center and a tackle. 4 year of an OLine coaching Savant means only 2 needs for the oline.

After all the years of our oline being complete trash, you think people would appreciate having a good oline.
I absolutely appreciate it. Mirabal and Mario have done a good job here and getting quality players where needed in order to compete with the best of the best. The Oregon guys stunk, but Lee + Carpenter + Cohen did great work. Markell Bell, I have high hopes for next year. Can’t crown him yet - you see flashes at times, and other times it’s a wreck. But, there’s potential.

But at the same time, having to dip back into the portal in year 4 for multiple OL does raise some concerns about the class of 2023 guys we brought in (other than Francis of course).

They wouldn’t be pursuing multiple interior OL if they felt good about what they had in the room. I think you can see it from both sides of the coin.

Doesn’t matter to me as long as the outcome is a dominant OL. But in a perfect world, we would have hoped guys like Kinsler, Tinilau, Tripp, Samson etc. would have progressed further and pushed for starting roles.

I think Kinsler should be developed by now. This year he should step up. Okunlola who knows whats going on there, hoping he can step up. But I dont see anything wrong with bringing in older players to push some of these dudes to be better and ultimately protect your most important asset on a football field the QB.

Samson sure given he was a 5star and making a lot of money most likely. The others were always guys you wouldn't expect to play until like RS Jr yr types. Like Tinilau is going to be a RS SO this year and was always a project.

If you get 1 Portal Oline per year, That seems fine with me. There are 5 Oline Starters. That's 23% of the starting jobs on the roster yearly. I'd assume we get 8-12 portal guys a year at least. If 1/10 is an Olineman that seems perfectly reasonable.

Again 22-27 HS and 8-12 Portal guys seems like it should be the target when you have 105 scholarships, especially when basically there is zero hope anybody ever sticks around past their 3rd year in the program (at any position really) if they aren't getting a good amount of playing time...

It'd be nice if we didn't need to get a portal guy, but I don't think getting 1 per year is some negative indicator of much. Especially if its a case of the guy on the roster is likely average to above average but the guy being brought in is good to great....

personally I'd expect SJ and Buchanan to earn starting jobs here within 1-2.5 years. Next year we may go Portal a top OT to replace Mauigoa. But I'd expect us to get one 5star OT out of HS in 2025 who we expect to win job day 1. Every three years we need a 5star OT who hits imo.

Going after backups in the portal now. They must know an exodus is happening or the ones they have just aren't good.

Also that him and the tackle both had miami as finalists in HS but went elsewhere.

And hands...how many interceptions did we drop this year?
Hands Like a pachyderm with a dc with Down syndrome . On the side lines looking for his baseball stunting De inside every play why they’re running the qb outside
