PODCAST: The QB transfer portal could be WILD

Listened to the pod this morning the Nussmeir canes takeover caught me off guard but it does make some sense. I just don’t think Dawson is getting a HC job.

What about Dawson makes anyone think he can be a good HC? Maybe some team desperate enough will make a play, but it won't be even an SMU level program. And if he does take a HC job (at a G5 program), why would he leave prior to the playoffs? That whole train of thought seems off to me.

As far as portal QB, we're looking for a guy that has already been highly productive at a P4 team against good comp because we want to not just make the playoffs but have a NC run. He needs to have experience winning tough battles against good teams, have field awareness, processes super fast through his progressions, be pass-first but also able to scramble for first downs if needed.

What about Lagway makes anyone think he's that guy? Maybe in 2026. Not today. Stop being enamored by potential and focus on the facts on the ground right now. Medoza isn't it, he's too athletically limited. Dones isn't it, he doesn't process has enough and is too erratic. I was impressed with Weigman early on, but he is a pick machine and hasn't shown enough improvement.

Right now, the guy from WSU, Sorsby and Jennings from SMU are the three I'm most interested in. But I think more names will emerge over the next couple of weeks.

What is an SMU level program?

mateer might not even be a option. Who said he is leaving? Him and the team are having a great season.

sorsby just transferred to Cincinnati and why would Jennings leave? Most likely names right now are miller moss, Weigman, Avery Johnson since d money said it’s rumors he is looking around, mateer will have a decision with deals already waiting on him, stone, Arnold maybe

Does ewers stay for another year and if he does would Texas push him out for arch? Either way whoever it is there’s going to be a split on if he is actually good or not

We’ve been spoiled by Cam’s success, so no matter who we get there will be questions and complaints. Doubtful there will be anyone in the portal with four years of starting experience. He is a rare commodity and we should simply enjoy the season. Last week’s game was a downer, of course, but the rest of the season has been incredible and far better than anything we’ve experienced since 2000-2002.

Oregon almost lost at Wisconsin last night. Undefeated seasons are going to be rarer and rarer in this NIL/Revenue Sharing/Transfer Portal era of college football.

Everyone was complaining about Bama-Georgia-Clemson-Ohio State dominating for a nearly a decade. Except for their fans, of course.

The end result is what we have now. College football will become very much like the NFL. I wouldn’t be surprised if we had 2-loss teams at the top of the college football playoffs every season in the future.

Are WSU, SMU and Cincinnati going to make a playoff run next season? Will they give their QBs the best opportunity to climb the draft ranks? Those are the two questions that really count. I think an argument can be made they do not put those kids in the best position to prove their value.

They all could make a playoff run. 2 of the 3 are doing it now

And even Cam Ward misses some layups. Kids in his first year as starter.

Welcome to college football brother.

That belies the point; it's the quality of misses and the fact that accuracy doesn't improve significantly at this stage of development. No need to be sensitive b/c I don't knock his eye-popping abilities; better runner than Cam without the elite arm-talent.

Whomever they bring in will have to compete and the best player will play. IMHO, team talent will be better next season and consistently executing the assignments/offense (on target/time) will trump hero-ball.
