I was surprised when Addae survived last offseason's staff purge considering what was said about him as a recruiter by insiders on the board for months.
It seemed we were aiming way higher at CB in last year's cycle. Brown and Stafford were great gets and we obviously fought like **** to land the top corner in the country in Cormani. We also tried but failed to flip Matthews from OSU, Jackson or Denson from UF, and Austin from LSU, all of whom were consensus 4*'s and three of whom were Top 125 overall players nationally.
Guys like Mack, Knight, and Frederique would *maybe* fit the bill as the CB3 or CB4 in a class, but all 3 possibly being takes should raise some eyebrows. It doesn't seem we're in the game for anyone close to Brown or Stafford's level right now. Some may be more optimistic than me about our chances of somehow flipping Robinson from UGA, but aside from him there's no smoke linking us with any other premier CB1.
My bet is if Cormani did not pull signing day shenanigan's we could have had a better shot to flip one of those top 125. But Cormani was out clear #1, getting him makes those others less of a need. If he pulled out much earlier, we likely kick some of his allocated money to sweeten the deal for a flip. Maybe nothing happens but my guess is the staff's attention and financial backing were not as all in as they could have been assuming they were in a good spot with Cormani. I do agree CB recruiting this year seems to be down. Unless they can flip Ellis I do not see a true CB1 we are in it for and frankly not too many true CB1 out there.
