Miami Hurricanes

2013 record: 9-4

On Nov. 1, the Hurricanes were unbeaten at 7-0 and their No. 7 ranking was their highest spot in nearly a decade. But starting with a blowout loss to Florida State, the Hurricanes limped to a 9-4 finish and did not even receive a single vote in the final AP Top 25. However, things are looking up in 2014 as Al Golden continues to rebuild the program, which will be one year further removed from its two-year bowl ban and the possible NCAA sanctions hanging over it.

While the Hurricanes will lose quarterback Stephen Morris in 2014, he had a sub-par 2013 season and the new quarterback will be surrounded by some elite skill-position talent. It was no coincidence that Miami's season started to slide when running back Duke Johnson was injured, but he should be ready to go in 2014 along with wide receiver Phillip Dorsett and freshman All-American Stacy Coley. While the defense struggled down the stretch last year, it still was much improved from 2012's unit. All-ACC linebacker Denzel Perryman returns and Golden has done a nice job of recruiting on that side of the ball. The schedule features a tough nonconference road trip to Nebraska, but outside of a home game against Florida State, the Hurricanes should be favored in at least nine of their other 10 games, giving them a great shot of achieving their first double-digit win season since 2003.

It was no coincidence our season slid when we played the four toughest teams on the schedule.

Right?

Dukes injury can't be understated. That kid changed everything on offense for us.

But still, its just more masking the real issues. Unfortunately these guys are going to get bailed out by the talent we have and are adding.

Duke was tearing FSU up before he got hurt and we were definitely in the game, then he went down.

I know when he got hurt, my first thought was, "there goes our season."

Seems like national press thinks more highly of our team and our coach then most of our "fans."

Duke is great, but unless he planned on splitting his cells off and forming a defensive coordinator, 3 defensive linemen worth a ****, and a couple of linebackers that could run, then he wouldn't have made much of a difference.

We gave up an average 42 points a game in those losses, and 540 yards.

You know that a running game averaging 200 yards a game makes your defense better, if only by the defense not having to be out there for 70+ snaps.

We all know that our DT's, mlb's and safeties have been average at best, but when they are not worn down, they are markedly better.

Stop it you're getting to complex for these simpletons.

If the coaches get real and overhaul what they do after looking in the mirror, there's no reason we can't win 10 games.

Our season ends completely differently if Duke is healthy. FWIW our RB depth was. ******* JOKE and Duke being out ruined our chances at winning the coastal.

It seems like the only guy who remembers phillip dorsett being injured...before the fsu game...is phil steele...that is when the season changed...duke getting injured was too much to overcome...if duke & dorsett both healthy are worth wins...their absence must be worth some losses...

Post like these allow me to see who has and has not played or coached football before, and if they have, probably wasn't very good at either.

A stagnant offense is almost worse than our defensive scheme itself.

We were losing 35-14 and didn't convert and 4th down on the play he got hurt, but yeah, we were "in the game."

Losing your starting rb when you do not have a backup is bad enough but when that guy is the best guy on your team you are going to feel the pain.

I just find it comical that a lot of people still think the offensive woes and the defensive struggles are mutually exclusive.
