Pete and Crew - Sanctions & Recruits

IMO putting out to the media that Miami is self-imposing a 2nd bowl ban is going to have a negative effect on recruits.... now there is this cloud of uncertainty about whether Miami is going to get raped or not.

If Miami didn't self-impose recruits probably would've had some doubts still but the perception would be Miami has the NCAA investigation behind them and moving forward in a positive direction.

This is contrary to everything that has been said by players, coaches (privately and otherwise), and recruits. Thanks for the opinion. Remember, no trolling this area.

Lu, I dont know zone and whether he is trolling or not, but there are a lot of Miami fans out there that still seem to be under the delusion that we are only going to get a slap on the wrist, so by enacting a 2nd bowl game ban, that seems to be flying in the face of that rationale. I am sure, however, there will still be fans that think 'we skate' and that everything Shapiro said was lies and that Miami is just overreacting.

@Lucane: I don't "troll"?????

@Shogungts: W/ me it's not about whether or not Shapiro lied or not, it's about whether the NCAA is going to rape us regardless of the 2 bowl bans.... i don't know what they are going to do, that's why i'm not sure about any decision we make.

So i just made another point to be mindful of..... if the NCAA rapes us anyway, recruits that wanted us to take a bowl ban are still going to commit elsewhere.

If the NCAA rapes us and hits us with a 4 year ban like Penn State then we are screwed regardless of when he take those bowl bans. I would say doing 2 now is still better than sitting out 4 starting next year. Odds are Miami wont be hit with 4. I always felt we would get 2. If that happens then I would rather potentially take a better team next year bowling than possibly going to a bowl game with this yound team and finishing the year at 7-7 after the inevitable thrashing at the hands of FSU in the ACCCG and SEC school we face in the Chick Fi A bowl.

I would be shocked if we got the PSU punishment ..... All this for some drinks and meals over a certain period of time by a rogue booster...

If we get anything close to PSU punishment good luck finding another school to cooperate with the NCAA to the level that UM has. The bowl ban demonstrates the seriousness the University is showing and the lengths it's willing to go to fix whatever issues they have uncovered. Hopefully it's enough, as far as bowl games go but still expect to lose scholarships.

Miami broke some rules. The football team had some rogue coaches (who are still coaching, btw). And Miami self-imposed some punishment. But, this is a case of sensationalism. In a nutshell, some players hungout with a conman who provide drinks and girls. There was not much if any real "cheating" by Miami's athletic department...........unless you want to count those rogue coaches (who are still coaching, btw)

THIS

People forget that we're putting the NCAA in a tough position by cooperating so much. They nailed USC mostly because they didn't cooperate (and i believe the $ total there was larger than UM), but now UM is exactly the ideal school in terms of cooperation. We suspended our own players and self imposed an unprecedented 2 bowl bans while being completely open. If the NCAA goes to hard on us it could be a decade before they sniff cooperation.

I don't know how people can't understand this. Regardless if it's a 2 year, 4 year, or 6 year bowl ban, it's going to happen and delaying the ban is just going to make it even worse for recruiting efforts. By getting this out of the way, Golden doesn't lose that much momentum in recruiting and it gives the team more certainty than not. Now Golden can focus on recruiting after the Duke game and shore up his top 15.

This really is the only move by Miami and Golden only taking 15 kids is a very smart move as well. It shows the NCAA that we're as serious as they are in regards to moving forward from the debacle that current people in the program weren't a part of.

I would anticipate that we would only get one NCAA bowl ban, but by taking two, in addition to our full cooperation, we're likely to be able to make an honest appeal to reduce our scholarship reductions to a minimum.

Keep in mind, it's not like any of the violations led to three National Championships in the past 8 years. We sucked.

There is no way we get 3 bowl bans. Why is that even being mentioned? Look at the precedent. UNC had a freaking coach funnelling players to a big agency along with rampant academic fraud and they got 1 year. OSU's head coach, AD, and President lied to the NCAA, decided not to ban themselves out of arrogance and they got 1 year (LOL at them now). USC got 2 years b/c of the arrogance and idiocy spread throughout their administration...they basically went on about their business while flipping the bird at the NCAA. When u cut to the teeth of our mistakes it isn't any worse than any of these...in reality what we have done is far less than these to be honest. The only difference is we are "The U" and everything has been sensationalized.

We were probably only going to receive 1 bowl ban, but taking this 2nd one assures that we will not miss another postseason. You can best be **** sure the staff is selling this to these kids.

^ I hope e were gonna get more than 1 dude. If we took two for the sake of taking two, then everyone involved are morons. We better hope we took two because we knew we were going to get two anyways.

if they only give us 1 can the second one help lessen the scholarship reductions and probation time

We may never have the answer to this. Like I said, there is no sentencing guidelines.

5 Ships = 1 Bowl Ban

10 Ships = 4 Years Probation
