Pat Bethel getting that weight up

It can be done. I was 6'2 and came into college at 220. Left at 275. And this back in the 90's after an ACL surgery inbetween. This kid has the length. Men do not stop growing until 21-22. He will be a quick 5 tech type of guy. Does not help with the fact we need that 1 tech guy. Hope Norton does not leave.

Love this time of year, keeping an eye out for whose going to be next to blow up on the scene.

Coach Felder has the kinda thick body mass and build for a DT, not Bethel. Who da white GuY with a beard? He a Golden special?

Lu, Geta, et al., apologies if this is a stupid question. But if these guys are that strong, do we care if they're "DTs" or not?

What would happen if we had a NG like Norton and three DEs in Bethel, Jackson and Thomas on the field at the same time. How could opposing offenses use that against us? Couldn't we still control the LOS against the run, given how strong they're getting? And wouldn't it add another dimension to our scheming as these guys can stunt more and still get upfield quickly?

If you have a DE strong enough to play DT and handle double teams, you do it.
Bethel is a DT...especially if he wants PT. Because it looks like DJ Johnson is going to take over for Chad Thomas.
**** he might be over 6'3", and he's at least 275. Not that much different than Gerald Willis.

Miami needs a few quick, run-stuffing DTs for whom an occasional sack is a bonus. Like Vince Wilfork.

No one is saying he's the next Norton, Wilfork, or even Courtel Jenkins, but he could be a nimble and athletic 3-4 DE/4-3 DT in the rotation, otherwise he will be buried on the depth chart and we have no DTs after next year. McIntosh is listed at around 285. Willis is also around 290. There's no reason Bethel can't be a solid and athletic DT in the rotation at 280.

Weight is still weight. Regardless of how much a guy benches/squats, a 260lb man is still easier to move than a 295lb man.

Think about it. You've got RB's and LB's in football that are actually stronger than average DT's in the weight room. They'd still get their a$$ kicked if you lined them up on the DL though.

In regards to Bethel, he needs to be a minimum of 285 at his height IMO. Anything less is not enough mass to consistently hold the point of attack against 290+ offensive linemen IMO.

There's exceptions to every rule, like Aaron Donald, but they're few and far between. But Donald is very short so his 285lbs is compact. He also has freak strength and runs a 4.7 forty.
