Palermo

Not to split hairs, Franchise, but Fairley was a JUCO guy. He was a one and done stud at Auburn. But I get your point.

Auburn University[edit]
Fairley transferred to Auburn University, where he played for the Auburn Tigers football team in 2009 and 2010. He finished the 2009 season with two starts in 13 games and recorded 28 tackles. In 2010, he became the 2nd player from Auburn to win the Lombardi Award. He was coached by Lombardi winner and former Auburn player Tracy Rocker, and became the first player to win the Lombardi and be coached by a winner of the award.[2]
During the 2011 BCS National Championship Game against the Oregon Ducks, Fairley had five tackles, three behind the line of scrimmage, a sack and a forced fumble earning the defensive player of the game award.

But it sounds like you are a fan of Jethro. So ill say this.. ALL the other coaches are recruiting under the SAME conditions as Jethro. Paul Williams is KILLING IT with these secondary recruits. Art is KILLING IT. Barrow is KILLIN IT. Hurlie is KILLIN IT. **** Brennan Carroll is doing his thing! They are getting much needed top shelf talent at these positions under the same sanctions. Lets face it. Buddy aint a good recruiter and thats a problem cuz he is going toe to toe with Odell Haggins and Muschamp and is gettin his a$$ kicked. Like I said, im not ready to fire the guy. But "ball dont lie" as Rasheed Wallace famously said.

Fairley being a JUCO guy supports my point that he didn't do it as a freshman or sophomore. In fact, it wasn't until his SECOND year out of JUCO that he tore it up at Auburn. Took him 3 or 4 years removed from HS to be an impact player.

I'm not a fan of Jethro. I'm a fan of UM. As a fan of UM, I understand that our corches have been battling other programs for top recruits with our hands tied behind our back. And when it comes to DLinemen, NONE OF YOU know (no matter how much you think you know) if someone is a bust after a year or two in the program. You just don't know. So, to label the kids we have on the DLine as busts or as mediocre because they didn't eat faces like a Haitian zombie as freshman or sophomores is pathetic. And I say that as a UM fan, not a Jethro fan.

I don't give a **** about Jethro, but I can assure you that Palermo or Petri or any of the other guys who have been anointed football gods by the message board soothesayers couldn't have done jack **** with the babies and the trash (Darius **** logging major minutes while Porter was out) and cripples (Shayon Green) that Jethro was working with. How about looking at 2 star unheralded Olsen Pierre if you want to castigate Jethro? He came in as a 260 pound bum that no one wanted. Now, he's a 300 pound grown man, and he's poised to have a monster season and be a high NFL draft pick. How'd that happen?

Chise gets it...

Ok Franchise, maybe we are arguing about two different subjects. My original post was that he would be judged off of Moore/King/Ivery/Grimble. They will be the core of our Dline next year. Im not saying these kids suck or are bust.

BUT I did say buddy sucked at recruiting. And to say he has two hands tied behind his back is one sided because so does the rest of the staff but its not holding them back from getting top notch talent. DT is the only position on the team that we are failing to bring in premier talent. We shall see how good he really is next year when the core of the DT rotation will be Juniors. No excuses then.

And the point is that none of you guys know what a premier DT looks like when he comes in. Wilkerson was a 2 star at Temple (all you guys sucking off the star system would have hated signing him if he came here), and he left as a great college DT and a 1st round draft pick. Olsen Pierre came in here a 2 star bum Temple commit that all you guys hated. He's going to leave here a very productive DT and a high NFL pick. At the end of the day, DT and OL are incredibly hard positions to recruit and project.

To attempt to draw a parallel between snagging a blue-chip WR or RB (which are fairly easy to project and which grow on trees down here) and a top flight DT is foolhardy. Sure, we've been able to bring in more blue-chip skill guys for the simple reason THAT THERE IS A MUCH BIGGER POOL OF THOSE GUYS AVAILABLE.

...but but but...forget it Franchise...why are you using logic when you can just use emotion

While I completely agree that UM has been recruiting with two hands tied behind it's back for 3 recruiting cycles, Jassid does have a point that all the coaches have been under the same burden. The question is whether Jethro is responsible for the loss of the various DTs we've tried to pull (Bostwick, Bryant, etc...) or if it's whatever coach is assigned to the various regions these DTs came from. There has been mixed info for years on whether the position coaches are responsible for recruits at their position, or it's a geographic-based recruiting model (or some combination of the two).

And though Franchise is right that we don't know with any degree of certainty who is a premier DT prospect and who is not, the fact remains that the staff wanted -- and went after hard -- several 4/5 star DT prospects in recent years, but unfortunately we have missed on them. by contrast -- as Jassid is saying -- we've had a lot more success pulling 4/5 star recruits at other positions.

Hopefully, we can pull some studs this year. And more importantly, hopefully, moore/king/ivery/grimble develop into something productive. regrettably, i do not recall a lot of practice reports indicating that these guys have shown that they are expected to become dominant. and they better have a **** of a lot better work ethic than Briscoe.

Nobody is using emotion, canefish. I am using my eyes.

Franchise, we will agree to disagree. We will rehash this subject next year when the core of the DL will be Jrs and Srs.
