The reason why we are not recruiting more DEs is because we don't have to. Obviously the coaches like what they see from the FR. They are undersized and inexperienced now, but adding more undersized and inexperienced FR to the team for 2013 really isnt gonna help much. We just need to get the guys we do have the gametime experience and bulk they will need to improve.
Numbers wise we are fine. Cain, R Williams, Greene, Hamilton, Chick, Hoilette, McCord, ODonnell for 2012. 8 kids for 2 starting spots and 2 rotational spots. I personally think at least 1 of Cain/Greene wont be back in 2013 (maybe a medical hardship for Greene who has never finished a season here uninjured).
Another limiting factor on recruiting DE is the tiny recruiting class for 2013. If you want to add more than 1 DE this year, then you need to find more attrition preferably from the DE ranks so you dont cannibalize other spots. I guess the early returns on R Williams are not favorable but is Golden gonna give up on him to make room for another 2013 kid? I think if Golden was as concerned about DE as everyone else, we would have pushed harder for Jordan Sherit - right now, it looks like it's just Tim Williams or bust.
All of this is subject to change as the season goes on - if the FR dont progress and our DEs dont improve as a whole, you could see renewed emphasis here recruitingwise in the fall and winter.
