Watching this Charlie Strong interview has convinced me that we need a coach like this down here... He has the ability to communicate effectively in the public and convey his message to the masses, while relating to his players and having the mentality that is ingrained into the young men of South Florida from Pop Warner. Seeing what he did at Louisville, and what he did to us in the bowl game, I am certain he will be a force at Texas.

I don't want this to become on of "those" threads, but I'll be interested to see how he actually does before I crown him.
He was somewhat over inflated at L'ville by that until he got Bridgewater he was 7-6 & 7-6.
He talks a good game, but we all know that only lasts for so long. He's in a whole different world now.

Wasn't that one of Al's STRONG (see what I did there) qualities. His ability to talk and convey a message.

we'll see how he does at texas. I'm predicting a short tenure, but, maybe i'll be wrong.

True but Kragthorpe left Louisville in ruins from a roster management and talent stanpoint. Bridgewater obviously gets all the attention but there are a lot of good players on that squad that were recruited by Strong, especially defensively.

I do think he'll ultimately 'fail' at Texas though, meaning I don't think he wins any titles. I just think that's a bad cultural fit for him, and no I don't mean race. Just all the politicking, the way he wants to run his program, etc.

Charlie had a top rated QB at Louisville. Texas has an average QB at best. Let's see how this plays out.

Agreed. However, look what he did at UF with their defense during their championship run, and he somewhat recreated that to a lesser degree with less talented players at Louisville. He is a defensive coach, who will have no problem finding an elite qb in texas. He just needs to be smart in picking a good OC and he will have Texas back to Championship levels.

As far as Consigliere's comment, the communication jab was more in regards to Randy Shannon's inability to communicate to the fan base. He was clearly uncomfortable being the main guy of a program and that reflected in the way he shut everyone out of the program during his tenure.

Charlie Strong is a good coach....his resume can speak for that....BUT

- At Louisville he benefitted GREATLY from having Bridgewater around
- Strong left Louisville at the right time. Their talent level on D this year (2014 season) is MUCH less than it was last year

He's pulling a Randy Shannon at UT. Must sit in front of class, no hats, must know teammates mother's names, etc.

He is smarter and Randance, but he is alienating the boosters and media. It all sounds familiar. Has fail written all over it at Texas.

Contrary to what people believe, most of his rules aren't that much different than Mack Brown's rules. The main rule he's implemented is the on campus living. That's the big one that's different ..And he's not the soft, loving family guy that Mack was. He's a hard nose, no nonsense type of guy. He's actually probably a lot more like Saban than people think. His players at UT love him already. The term "soft" was used to describe Mack's teams. Trust me - the players there now are doing everything it takes to have that label removed. Notice you didnt see a ton of transfers when he was hired? These dudes are buying in -BIG TIME.

Oh, and let me let you in on a little secret: A lot of players on the team respected Mack, but he wasn't "loved" by the time he was at his end

Media and boosters? Alienated? The truth is, he's a lot more personable than people gave him credit for. The boosters are loving him already. Of course, that could all change if he doesnt win. Media wise, he's done a great job, too. The local media is already eating out of his hands, as are most of the media outlets in the state. He'll be fine and kick ***

This will be interesting to watch how Strong weathers life under that UT electron microscope.

He'll win big at Texas.

That's what im thinking, too. He'll easily have 3-4 TOP QB's begging to play for him every year out west and in state.

That alone, makes his job a TON easier. And when Watson gets Jerrod Heard ready to play, it's going to be bananas. Heard is a faster version of Vince Young. Shorter, but probably a better athlete. He's been working with George Whitfield, who has said that he's going to be special.

Yeah, Strong is going to be just fine...

New coach Charlie Strong isn't telling Texas fans what they want to hear. Instead, he's dishing up a heaping helping of realism for supporters as he heads into his first season as Longhorns coach.

"We have everything available, and I don't know why we can't be successful," Strong told fans in Fort Worth during the first stop on his bus tour, according to the Austin American-Statesman. "There's no reason for us not to be. Now, I can't tell you how soon it's going to be. Don't hold me to that. Don't say, 'Ooh, coach said next year we'll be in the national ...' We will not be in the national championship game"

He's an average coach but has a good eye for talent, recruits well, develops his players and runs a good overall program. If he lands a solid QB he will have UT playing for championships. He will find success at Texas.

Wish he were at Miami. He would have absolutely killed it.

Strong will do well..but the old time backward *** boosters in that state are gonna make his life **** for the first year or two.
