OT: Avengers Endgame

Yeah, it's obvious that if you ask a bunch of comic book guys what they would prefer, you're going to get one answer and if you ask a bunch of older businessmen what they prefer, you'll get a totally different answer. I don't disagree that sports are probably more popular, I just don't think the margin is nearly as large as you were inferring.

Honestly, I'm not even really a comic fan boy anyway. I'll watch the movies but I'm probably a much bigger UM football geek. Although, Star Wars and race boats can usually keep my attention for long periods of time too.

That is what I am saying. I do think the gap is reasonably big though.

The fact that you have to pay 15 bucks to see the avengers and the superbowl is free plays a part as well, but you also have 30+ people watching one TV for the SB sometimes. Were as 1 ticket = 1 viewer. That said though, every single office is going to have an office SB party and every job besides maybe a bunch of neckbeard nerds that work in a video game store are going to have someone hosting an SB party. The same can't be said about the avengers.
Your logic train is so flawed it isn't even funny. Comparing a free broadcast event that you can watch from anywhere with a movie premier that limits viewership due to capacity is like comparing shoes to suits. Sure, you use your eyes and ears but aside from that it is not at all the same thing.

The SB is a one day, single-time event. If you don't catch it live, then you know the results and it doesn't matter. A movie (any movie, pick a genre you like) is not a one day, single-time event. It couldn't be even if it wanted to be. It is distributed in a way that requires it to be watched over time by people as their schedules and availability for viewership become compatible. There are probably millions of people who WANTED to watch today but couldn't so they will watch it another day. You do not get that option with the SB.

People don't talk about movies as much as they talk about the SB because it is a different event and people have been conditioned "not to ruin it for others." Go anywhere else in the world and the SB is monumentally and orders of magnitude less important. There are no office parties for that one day, and the chances that people know it is happening is minuscule. Not to mention that if you actually HAD a watch party on opening day of the movie, you'd be committing a crime because it would be pirated. But the chances that in Australia or Brazil or England there are millions of people discussing the movie is insanely high.

Moreover, they are not even in the same league financially. The SB generated just north of $400 million in revenue which is going to be SMASHED by the movie which is very likely to clear $1 billion. That is a lot of burger-flipping neck-beard-toting video-game-playing nerds paying $15 a head to watch.

I've never read a single comic book in my life, have played in sports teams and competed, and I'm excited about this movie. Grown men posturing trying to prove they are more manly than the next over a movie is ridiculous. Let people enjoy what they enjoy, wtf does it matter to you?

Add up all your cable bills and tell me how free your Super Bowl/NFL viewing actually is.

I am not talking about foreign countries for obvious reasons. however, if you want to bring them up. Soccer viewership would **** on the amount of people watching childrens movies.

Its a lot of children going to these movies. There are literally going to be minivans rolling up dropping off hordes of kids to see the film. Yes neckbeards and the unemployed will make up a good portion of viewers, but the majority is going to be kids. It doesn't matter to me if you want to watch a children movie. However, when someone says a ridiculous statement like " avengers is less childish than football" I am going to step in and call them out.

I said further down that it was a flawed piece of data, but its the best we can come up with. Revenue is even more flawed.

Way more adults watch football than avengers movies. That is all I was proving.

I guess I missed the start of the argument. 100% agree with that.

You watch college football and MNF on ESPN, correct?

Nothing in life is free... not even Pornhub.

Exactly right. Even more, take the Super Bowl or NFL in general. Everyone pays indirectly if you follow the dollar. Do you think the companies that pay for those million (plus) advertisements aren't putting that on us as consumers??? A bud light (how much does bud pay to be official sponsor of nfl probably a **** load), a pepsi and your cable bills are all higher because of the popularity of football and the NFL, tv contracts, ads, etc. Like others said it isn't a great comparison to look at cost of avengers and SB because it is two different exercises.

I've had friends say I don't support the NFL or give them any of my money because I only watch them on tv. Not really true. By watching NFL on tv, you are supporting the mechanism and contributing to the popularity and yes giving them your money one way or another. The only way not to at this point is for football/nfl to drop in popularity enough, which aint happening anytime soon. So SB definitely is not free, just no game day transaction. Although with food, bud lights , new tv that can be debated also.

ant man crawls into a ear and gets rid of them all. he's the new king -- obviously this is a joke for those nerdy types. I haven't gotten past the first avengers and don't plan to

I saw it at a private screening.

3/10, seriously. Pace is all out of wack and it's plot hole galore, lots of very forced and cheesy moments. Was very disappointed tbh.

I've been waiting for this ridiculous comment. "Find a woman" is probably the lowest hanging fruit joke on here when it comes to anything not revolving around sports. You watch a bunch of 18-25 year old men run around in spandex pants hitting other men for 12+ hours on a Saturday AND Sunday.

Not even close.

Seriously. A thread on a new Avengers movie?

I parachuted onto the North Pole and with wind chill, it was bumping 150 degrees below zero, worked as a manhunter of three different language nations, had a King Cobra rise up right in front of me, worked as a salvage diver while in college, worked as a Commercial Hot Air Balloon pilot while in college, got into a firefight with 11 brother soldiers one morning and there was only two of us come sundown. dropped a charging black bear with a pistol, saw a forty yard diameter, three feet high bundle of solid Daddy Longleg spiders, caught several wild hogs in Hellhole swamp SC with only my hands, been to the circus twice, saw a carnival with a fat lady with a beard and a retirement plan - including the hootchie cootchie show, actually saw one Democrat who could chew bubble gum and drive at the same time - only to find out he's switched parties the previous week.

I'm not even sure what damned sport you're referring to where grown-assed men run around in spandex pants - but find it curious that you do.

It's clear that our interests and experiences are polar opposites - so I'll beg your pardon for my smart-assed remark - go enjoy your movie.

And be sure to tell us who gets kilt. Squashed. Incinerated. Or retires.

We're all anxious.

Teach these boys archer. Dey gon learn today!

LOL! Seriously though. You would think that up in NYC no one would give af about college football and honestly most don't watch any teams besides their teams, but they all know how their school is doing at any given time during the season.

I grew up during the 60’s when we were fighting about everything with everyone: Cold War, Nam, civil rights, abortion, women’s rights and any movement you can name. Taking positions and speaking about them were. PC was not in effect yet. I never broke the habit. It gets hairy but given my basic nasty strike first approach, it usually work out. Certainly not the way to go today.
