opinion of James King?

No. They should've gone after Talan, but the staff doesn't prioritize speed and athleticism. At all.

King over Talan and Gordinier over Curtis are egregious evaluation errors.

You are completely clueless. King was a complete disaster. Before you start praising King
Talk to someone who actually knows why he was booted. Put the football aside. In regards to football and talent, you are clueless.
King had almost no offers. Gordinier had over 20 and is right behind Shaq on the depth chart. He is a key guy in regards to depth.

Richt said in so many words that his first priority was to evaluate who were "UM caliber" players/athletes and who were not after the Spring. They said he did something off the field that didnt help his chances either (think I read that on here) ..either way, im glad we are not waiting to the last minute to get rid of kids who cant cut it here and get the extra scholies.

I think guys like Mayes and Henley have until this year to prove they belong (Esp with the DBs we got coming in potentially in 17'/18') or they are on the chopping block too along with some other guys.

LMFAO Talan isn't even playing football.

Adrian Talan no longer on the team - Husker Football - HuskerBoard.com - Husker Message Board

He's playing JUCO ball.

But how does that change the fact that we still should've offered him over King?

Both were poor talent evals....thats the point. Just because a **** might have a few peanuts in it doesnt mean hes special.

You're calling someone else clueless for praising King when there's nothing in the post you quoted praising King. You're a special one.

The gripe, which is easy to see for anyone with the ability to read, was King shouldn't have been taken over Talan and Gordinier shouldn't have been pursued over Shawn Curtis (who's now at Ole Miss). Gordinier ended up here, so hopefully he kicks ***.

Poor talent evals in what way? (sorry, not quite sure what you're insinuating)

Personally I think it's a poor talent eval to offer James King over a kid who has offers from Gary Patterson and Pat Narduzzi. (Talan)

B cause your biased in this instance. Obviously the kid wasn't ready for the big time and is going juco. We would be in sane position as we are with king. None of those offers matter now. Maybe he comes back from juco and then turns pro and balls. Maybe we go after him after juco if he really is that good. We shall see but as of now him and king are equally disappointments. To me at least.

That's pretty much all i was getting at. Neither of them like many SFL recruits we were told that should've been offered are P5 material.

It's not biased at all. Everybody in this county knew who Talan was from the time he was a Sophomore.

College coaches apparently agreed with me as well, considering the fact that Talan's offer list was much better than King's.

There's no bias. Turn on the tape. It speaks volumes.

He went to JUCO because he was unhappy at Nebraska. He felt like the coaches lied to him. He asked for a release. They didn't grant it. He made a phone call to TCU and they set him up at a JUCO so that he didn't have to sit out of football for another year. This probably doesn't happen if he comes to Miami cause he'd be closer to home and have stronger influences to keep him grounded.

That's neither here nor there. I'm not saying whether the kid was right or wrong in his actions. That's another discussion that's completely irrelevant.

As a college coach your job is to recruit/offer the best players in your backyard. You chose a mediocre James King over (arguably) the most explosive defender in Broward County coming out that year.

How often does TCU come all the way to South FLA to recruit defenders?

Good enough for Pat Narduzzi and Gary Patterson but not P5 material?

He had 4 decent offers and he's already failed at 1 of them. One day if he makes through Juco and actually gets signed by TCU he'll probably register 11 special teams tackles in his career. I guess that's P5 material tho.

That's 4 more decent offers than King.

Again... (you keep missing the point)

COMING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL, TALAN WAS THE BETTER, MORE ATHLETIC, MORE EXPLOSIVE PLAYER.

The circumstances that have led him to where he is now are irrelevant.

How when the same circumstances coukd have happened here and we would be in the same position. Him in high school is irrelevant. We arent trying to win a state championship. This is college football. Something neither of them have proven they can compete at. So keep showing your bias.

I'm so confused as to HOW you don't get this.

It's a coach's job to recruit/sign the best players (in high school). Talan was the better player.

Neither you or Golden knew WTF would happen once they got to college.

And you saying he sucks is retarded. You don't know what he was doing at Nebraska before he left and you don't know what he's currently doing at his JUCO. (which, again, is irrelevant)

The whole **** thread is irrelevant.Neither one of them currently play for the Canes.Geez.

They're like "see, we shouldn't have offered Talan. He isn't panning out either."

Like you knew that was gonna happen when he was coming out of high school! LOL

Golden...and nobody on here...knew how his career would pan out. Your only concern (or job) should be offering the better player out of high school.
