only room for 16 on the bus

I'm talking about cutting David Thompson because he
a) has a torn rotator cuff that will make him miss his first year
b) will likely leave after 3 years regardless
c) will miss spring practice every year that he is here due to baseball

As far as Crow goes, we have 3 more years of Ryan Williams, 2 more years of Stephen Morris, 4-5 years of Dewey, and we're also adding Olsen. We'll likely take a QB in 2014 anyway, so we can get by one year without a 5th QB. QB depth is nice to have, but when facing sanctions, we have to make sacrifices. 4 scholarship QBs is not exactly chopped liver, especially compared to the fiasco that Shannon left where we only had 2 (not counting Whipple).

Thompson should choose his sport. And that's baseball.

No use blocking the stall because you can't make up your mind whether you want to take a dump now, or wait until halftime.

Squeeze hard, or get off the pot and make room for someone else.

Exactly Thompson is a waste of a schollie, unless he actually chooses football fulltime.

What Golden needs to do is make this team as YOUNG and as TALENTED as he can now. That means get rid of every potential piece of deadweight, particularly the older kids who wont be around anyway to help us through the dark times when the full force and effect of schollie sanctions hit. That also means LOADING UP NOW on every available kid we can get, frontloading the roster with young kids that will actually be around in 3-4 years when we will be at our weakest numberswise. 33 was a great start last year...follow that up with 20 more or the MAX that we are allowed should the schollie limits apply in 2013.

Taking only 15 kids is stupid frankly. If we have to get rid of 10 potential JAG types to get a 20 man class while reducing our total schollies to 80, that's what we should be doing. After this year, GOlden needs to take a good hard look at this roster and make some tough choices to slice off every piece of fat on it.

Even if the scholly reductions wouldn't go into effect until next year, couldn't we self impose this year to start early - especially if AG can work in some reductions in this class? Why put of the pain when you can just start absorbing it sooner than later?

Somehow that equals depth in your mind? Taking out Crow and Thompson we are speaking about:

A starting QB with more career INTs than TDs, a backup QB that transferred from a small school and has never taken a snap here, a freshman that has been here less than a year and has reportedly looked less than stellar, and a '13 kid that has yet to even enroll.

You see depth, I see one huge question mark.

How are Crow and Thompson making it any less of a question mark?

If we're cutting 5 scholarships, and we're thin all over the board, we can't afford the luxury of 6 scholarship QBs.

Exactly! 6 is excessive anyways, but for a team that is facing anywhere from 10-30 schollie reductions, 6 QBs is stupid. Some will transfer anyways. Better to cut your losses now, before schollie reductions hit, so we can use their schollies than have them leave in 2014 when we might not be able to take advantage of the additional open schollie. I'd take Thompson out for sure, then it becomes a battle between Williams, Crow, and Dewey to see which two get kept on board for 2013 and beyond and which one gets released. ****, we might not even have to make that choice - if Morris turns into a bonafide stud that comes back in 2013, Williams might just end up transferring to 1AA anyway as he might not want to sit behind Morris for yet another year.

I don't see Williams transferring again. He has backup QB written all over him, but we would definitely crash and burn if he leaves the program and Morris were to get hurt.

They don't make it any less of a question mark.

My point is that you don't run young, talented QBs off your roster unless you have the answers at that position and we most certainly don't.

Dream scenario.....scholarships open up and we can get any combination of these players

Jermanie Grace
Bain
Bostwick
Cunningham
Kirkland
Thomas

Long Shots
-Coley
-Tim Williams
-Mac Alexander
