One thing that confuses me about the D....your thoughts?

Pretty simple. First year under Golden our DL was better than it has been since. Ojomo was a better DL than anyone that has played since. We also had Fortson part of the year, Porter, Regis and Andrew Smith. None exceptional but overall much better than what we fielded the last year or so. Then look at linebackers. First, we had Spence who was a leader and absolute playmaker. He was surrounded by Buchannon and Futch, both of whom I'd take over Gaines and Cornelius. Perryman was a true freshman and didn't play that much. Overall our front 7 was quite a bit more talented that year than it has been since. If this recruiting class holds together and closes strong that will not be so in the next few years.
I agree on the front 7. A telling sign will be what these kids do at the next level, if anything. I don't think we're going to see a Sam Shields like situation occur with any of the front 7 that are graduating.

simple answer:

the 2011 defense was not the full installation of the AG/Dorito "defense". and that defense was still pretty ****** but compared to our current "defense" it seems awesome

now we have the fully installed AG/Dorito "defense" and it has been exposed over and over and over again and will continue to get exposed. anyone who thinks otherwise is retarded.

point blank

As someone else said, our defense was largely just as bad as far as yardage but our defense was able to get lucky in the red zone. Getting lucky in the red zone is ultimately not a recipe for a successful defense.

The scheme we run is too complex and physically demanding. Our players have been in this scheme for two full years and still don't fully understand it.

That's why we run the vanilla stuff we do that's easy for opposing teams to exploit. This is very much an NFL defense and our players can't grasp it. We didn't run this Golden's first year that's why the defense was slightly not terrible. We need to simplify things and let our players play instead of think.

Why the Defense was so good Golden's first year is because Golden did not recruit those plasyers, Shannon did. Most of them ended up in the NFL to some capacity. Still waiting for Golden to put 1 in the NFL.

I can agree with that.

Golden's put more early rounds players in the NFL then SHannon did.
Choke on that for a minute.

Donofrio couldnt stop rain with an umbrella. Thats problem #1. Golden and donofrios manlove affair is problem #2.

Donofrio must be a great lover, tho. You hire a ceo and he tanks your company, he gets fired. You hire a race car driver and he can never finish in the top half, you fire him. You hire a heart surgeon who cant locate the heart, you fire him. We are dead last in the acc in most defensive cayegories this past season vs acc teams, declining rapidly ever since he got hete, and he keeps gettin paid. Its like the bestest govt job EVAR!

Golden's first year we still had the leftovers from some of Shannon's first couple classes.

The last 2 years we are dealing with the leftovers of shannon's final few classmen as the upperclassment on D up front.

I think thats the biggest explanation for all this.

Remember we had that guy who transfered from Wake Forrest starting at CB because he couldn't get on the field at wake? We still have the same sitution this past year when we had to bring in a UVA DT reject and he ended up being our best DT.

Until that changes the results on the field won't change.

Golden's first year we also ran a lot more 4-3 single gapping looks and our defense didn't look full ****** either because of that.

Call me when one of Golden's players is better at his position than Jimmy Graham.

Why do you want to bring Frank Haith into the conversation?
