one start you all dont want to take notice of.

Where has Oregon been ranked in time of possession the last 5 years?

TOP doesn't mean anything if you score on a high % of possessions. Oregon does; we don't.
Exactly. Chip Kelly, who is probably a smarter football coach than most of the guys on this board, says time of possession is the most overrated stat in football.

It's overrated when you score often. But when you don't, you wear your defense out like what happened to us.

I brought up OP's point before.
0-11 on 3rd down conversion is the biggest reason for the disastrous outcome yesterday.
Our defense had some key stops and kept the team in the game for the most part.
They even gave us 2 points.

anyhow, obviously this was a flawed team that was exposed when Duke Johnson went down.
When you have a weak defense like we had, your talented offense should be the one to carry the team.
They didn't. No depth at RB to replace Duke and a QB that sucks at extending plays and converting 3rd downs sealed our fate.

STFU ******. You know **** well Foldin and co could do no wrong after the Duke game.

cursing won't solve your problems.. LOL.
anyhow I've put most of the blame on the offense the last 3 losses.
They failed since they had the talent and experience to carry the team.
The defense was just weak.

So it would be your goal to hold onto the football longer and then punt?

Our defense wasn't worn out. Our defense sucks and they quit very quickly because they know they're not getting help from the corches or the offense. They're a deeply disheartened fragile group that quits the minute things start unraveling.

I told my friend yesterday exactly when the defense was going to quit, and, by God, that's when they quit.

The stat by itself means nothing. But it's a possible indicator of other problems. Oregon and Baylor are low in top but they score like crazy and run very fast hurry up offenses. We do neither. So in our case the stat is relevant and an indicator that we have major problems (defense can't get off the field, offense can't stay on it).

You asked if it should be our goal to hold the ball longer but still punt. No, of course the goal should be to score but holding the ball longer and punting would better than what we currently do. Our defense was good against the run early in the year and tackling was sound. We were so badly destroyed in top that as the year went on the defense wore down, we started getting gashed on the ground and tackling deteriorated to the abysmal level. We rest up a month and boom, we're back to being physical against the run last night (3.5 ypc last night). Of course our defense still got destroyed because we have dorito as our dc and we use defensive ends to cover speedy wrs, but you could see some physicality (tackling and run defense) return to the defense that had been missing in the latter part of the season.

I don't think the defense wore down. We just started playing teams other than Savannah State and USF. And then we started getting in the habit of quitting when things got tough like we did against Duke and Loserville. We were horrible for too many entire games for me to buy into the TOP excuse.

Big reason for that is third down on both sides. Can't convert on offense and the defense can't get stops. I blame the offense largely on Morris. He is awful under pressure. Teams usually bring pressure on 3rd down. Defense is just a mess.
