I'll preface by saying no 1st game is perfect. We got the W. Sweet! There will be other threads to discuss minute corrections offensively and defensively. My take on one thing:

Please take Dorsett off returns. I'm not particulary a fan of the way we set up our punt returns but if the return design stays the same, he is not the guy IMO. He looks timid and quite frankly I believe it shows his main character flaw as a player. He won't let go and ball. He is reserved for some reason and it is evident when back there on returns. We have last year and this game as a sample size. Some things never change. If you watch the game, you can clearly see the way Crawford just goes north-south with urgency. That's what we need on punt return. Just get what you can.

I had to get that off my chest fellas. Anyway, that's my main gripe as of now. It sucks watching our team have an opportunity for explosive plays only to be hampered by an athlete looking like a deer in headlights.

That's all my friends. Huge game this week. I'm confident we will beat the turds.

Golden has really remade the special teams since he got here, but this continues to befuddle me. I don't think Dorsett is one of the ten best returners on the team.

would love to see Coley, Corn, Burns or Carter returning. But, a debut against UF might not be the best time to make the change....

Yesterday would have been a good time to get there feet wet, especially since FAU punted on almost every possession

Only reason why Dorsett is returning punts is because coaches trust him. He hasn't dropped the ball, made dumb fair catches or otherwise made bone headed decisions. Plus he can get a you positive yards with the threat to take it all the way given his speed.

Dorsett is the runner type almost like Travis Benjamin, not real, shifty like Parrish or Hester and his feet aren't good enough to cut while running full speed. He's not really going to create anything. You have to adjust your return game according. Right now he's prolly the best option and he'll be fine. It was only the first game with some new blood blocking for him. Lewis looks like he may be the shifty type, not sure who else fits the mold. Need to see more of the players.

Until then I'll settle with Dorsett.

Has the measurables you can point at. Great attitude/personality. Seems like a hard worker. From STA. Supposedly great family. Aside from the drops he probably doesn't have any mentals. Coaches tend to fall in love with kids who have all of those traits. We have to have someone better at return game, though, and change needs to happen there.

Not exactly to do with Dorsett but...

The way I see it... BC last year was not a good team and our defense was torched by them. We held FAU to under 200 yards of offense (with the starting D in) and no TD's.

In my opinion, vastly improved to start the season. To me this is the biggest ?. I think the offense was rusty, however, it was apparent that they were not expanding the playbook much, for obvious reasons. Hopefully we cut down on the penalties and drops, and improve line play and we should be alright!

Sorry if it looks like thread jacking...

That is honestly the only thing that annoyed me from last night. Coley in his one punt return looked more impressive than any of Dorsett's returns.

WTF? Dorsett is nothing like TB3 other than they are both short and fast. TB3 had moves and was a good returner. Dorsett is a WR I like a lot, but he is not a good punt returner. He is only there because he is safe just like CaneAlmighty said. For kick returns I don't mind Dorsett as much.

It's kind of hard to judge a returner when the opposing teams punter is booting it 60 yards down the field. FAU played excellent special teams last night and when it wasn't a touch back they were down there quick enough to contain the returner.

Don't be so quick to hang Dorsett.

Tb had no moves and had to gather his feet to make a sharp cut just like Dorsett. Both players are long strider types not your choppy feet type like Parrish, Hester or even a guy like antrel rolle.

Dorsett baffles me. He's very fast, maybe faster than Duke in straight up speed, but he got tackled by a shoelace on one play last night, and he and Morris looked like they had never played together at all.

Dorsett needs to stop fielding punts, put Artie, Coley, or Dallas.

For the love of god take him off!

when you have two punt returners you have NONE..put coley back there let him have it for a few years..Dorsett never makes the 1st guy miss..

Riight now it's probably more that Dorsett won't hurt the team with a mistake. I think he looks timid as well, even on KR's. Coley looked better on his PR, but I don't know if they'll trust anyone else until they can start getting some of the other guys experience. I think Duke will be the main KR against UF.

Kid needs to stop running track in the offseason and just keep putting in work on the football field

Where's that gif of TB3 putting on the brakes and dusting that Nole in his coming out party?

TB had his issues. A lack of quicks and wiggle certainly wans't one of them.

Yea and you'll, see exactly what I'm talking about. He had to stop then start again. Go ahead and post it for all to see.

Not to turn this into a TB thread but he's more an elite straight line speed guy than anything else. Has minimal wiggle and change of direction ability to be elite. To succeed he needs great blocking from his punt return squad. He didn't have that while he was here at Miami that's why he didn't really do much in the return game. In the pros he may have more success because of better blocking since he's still probably the fastest guy on the field.
