One issue that is overlooked (rebuilding argument)

Shula had talent there. He won 10 games one year. Saban was also 7-6 with a loss to UL-Monroe his first year and a blowout loss to Utah it the Sugar Bowl his second year. Some people act like Saban won a title his first year. People also act like Saban hadn't already won a title at LSU, coached at MSU and in the NFL.

UM is the Big Leagues of Collegiate Football. You don't come to the U to "learn" how to coach as you go. This isn't triple-A or the NBDL. Either you can or you can't. I understand that Golden has had to deal with a lot of bullshyt, starting with the NCAA **** storm. I also hate what Randy "No Clue" Shannon did to our once great program. But, you can't stop the sun from blinding you with one thumb. He has recruited well based on the crap he's had to deal with. But, recruiting well isn't enough if you coach scared. Most teams that play this prevent bullshyt only prevent themselves from winning. Hopefully as our talent keeps on improving, he'll change his scheme some. If he doesn't, I don't ever see us being elite again.

He's not learning, he's just not as experienced as Saban. Also, Saban walked into a much better situation.

Maybe we shouldn't compare Al to the best NCAA Head Coach of all time..... Do i like him, not really but what he had done is hard to match

Everyone loves to use Nick Saban at Bama as the benchmark for turning around a program. Truth is, that example is an anomaly, not the norm. Please do better when coming up with crap to feel bad about.

I am not bashing Golden. I think that he has done a **** of a job considering what he's had to deal with. Are we better off in every category now than we were with Blandy? Almost...only category we were better at under Blandy was TFL. Everything else under "the great destroyer" was ****. However, I am not blind. Been watching the Canes for almost 40 years and this is by far the softest, shytiest defense we have ever played. How about you actually give these kids a chance to make a play instead of having them play so soft. Lining up our talented DB's 10 yards off of the receivers and having your d-line hold the point of attack instead of trying to kill the QB is asinine. FSWho? was trying to kill Morris all night long. They are more talented than us, but if you don't let our guys try to make plays, how can they make them. Same screen pass run at least 5 times. Not once do we cover it. Trying to keep everything in front of us...WTF? I rather them ****** throw bombs on us, but at least we're trying to force them into mistakes. Again, the tape does not lie. Go back and watch film from our great teams. Our defenses were a marauding pack of wolves. Not only talented, but even our teams that were on probation played aggressive, kill the QB defense. They just didn't have the depth to win big games. While not there depth wise yet, if we played more aggressively, I think that our players would respond. Less thinking, more instincts and reaction. That is defensive football 101, for anyone who knows anything about football. Studying film is great, but when you see **** on the field that you haven't seen on film before, what do you prefer? The players being lined up right, or a savage athlete who has the instincts to sniff the play out and stuff it. I rather have the latter. These kids are used to playing aggressively, we're not maximizing their talents with this horrible scheme.

By the way, Pete Carroll also had USC rolling by his second year. Now don't give me the recruiting cleanly ****. This is BIG TIME college ball. Nobody recruits completely clean. It's just like the old sports adage goes: "If you ain't cheating, then you aren't trying hard enough." Not saying that this is how it should be. Just pointing out the "realities" which many of you just don't get.

Pete Carroll's coaching record at USC:

I won't even post Urban Meyer's coaching record because I can't freakin' stomach him, but he's also turned around teams real quick.

In closing, I fully support Golden. But it's time to stop being hard headed. We're winning, but not dominating lesser opponents like we used to. Many of you forget that from 1990-2003, we were 97-6 against unranked opponents. That's not even factoring in JJ's teams, which after his first season, annihilated unranked opponents. Let's get back to playing that type of ball. The sooner we do, the sooner we will see us back for real.
