Five-star Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter’s Prep offensive tackle Olu Olubobola is nearing a decision.

Olubobola doesn’t have an exact date. However, Miami, LSU, Notre Dame and Texas A&M are the four schools that have separated from the pack following spring visits, and a commitment could come at any time.

“I’m starting to wind down,” Olubobola said. “I might make a decision. I don’t know when just yet. I’m looking for good and trustworthy people. I just want to be comfortable there.”


Miami has been pushing hard for Olubobola in recent weeks.

UM offensive line coach Alex Mirabal made his way to New Jersey on Wednesday and watched Olubobola go through a workout before making an in-home visit with him and his family.

“It was good having him here,” Olubobola said. “Coach Mirabal had a sit-down conversation with my parents. They got to know him a little bit and got to know the type of coach I could potentially be around. He’s an honest person. He doesn’t sugarcoat anything. He’s very humble.”

Sounds like this kid is literally just waiting on Matthews to make his decision.

Neither are plug n play for me.

Matthews is more athletic and has went against better talent down here so that pushes him above Olu a bit.
Both need strength work.

Im cool with landing both.....Matthews for optics as south florida doesnt produce many with his size and athletic traits and from one of our feeder schools.

So one or the other im feeling good with the sky wasnt falling like it ws for some others.

Agree w both of them needing size/strength. Neither will be 330+ like Francis/Jackson game 1. Difference is I’d bet MM expects to play here/TAMU day 1. Olu probably not so much with him being newer to football. He’d probably be a strong RS candidate, which I’d love as it’d create some separation and he’d be ready to go at LT as a RS-Soph in ‘29.

Matthews likely is more ready to go cause he will be battle tested. But yea it aint Francis or Cantwell even with the ranking to me.

This isnt sour grapes either i have always stated this.

You take away he’s from South Florida and no one would be crashing out.

Who do you think has more upside? Sounds like Matthews has a Samson trajectory but he believes he’s the next Francis (Cantwell too given how he’s looked so far).

From what I heard it seems Olu has a higher ceiling but a lower floor.
