OL Who and How Many?

Thanks Z. Maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm disappointed so many top local guys at various positions, seem to be turning their backs on the local team.

Like I've mentioned on ITU, this OL class will be very interesting. We have 2 excellent commits already, not sure either is a LT but I wouldn't count out Big Vaughn. At 345 he has a SS of 4.78 at the Miami NFTC, which is absolutely insane. We have also seen him running routes and playing TE at 7-on-7. He definitely needs to drop weight but our strength coaches will get him there, hopefully 320-325. Idk how realistic that is considering his MASSIVE frame but I expect him to be over 330 later in his career. I compare him to Bills and former UGA LT Cordy Glenn, who just got a huge contract btw. I think RT is more than reasonable and worst case he's at G. Not sure on Dykstra yet.

As for our targets in-state everything is foggy. Slaton is the true mystery man due to claiming he wants to play DT in college and will listen to the schools that want him on defense. Ashley (AUB), Leatherwood (ALA), Telfort (UF) are currently committed elsewhere. Herbert has us running #2 as a true LT but he will be a tough pull imo as he really seems stuck on UF. Brahms is an OG and has a sister going to AUB so he knows, but I believe we are right there. Obviously I want guys from that group as much as anyone but I don't think it's as necessary as most.

Ultimately we have offers out to a ton of OOS studs so as long as we get the right guys I'm good. We may not get the top in-state guys we want in this cycle or next but once Richt gets established we will really start to pull some guys like the ones above.

The only OL that we are currently in a strong recruiting position with is Kendall Randolph.

I like 2017 4* left tackle Austin Troxell from Alabama, if he has recovered from his ACL injury he will be a force. Coach Searels is recruiting him, hopefully they can make a good ole boy connection.

Realistic class:
Dykstra
Donaldson
Brahms
Minor

But Minor has been silent since his visit and Auburn offered Brahms yesterday(his sister is going there) so it's hazy as hazy gets right now

I like that list, 2017 OG Nick Brahms if he can learn to play Center, he could make himself a potential 5* recruit based on versatility of being a OG\C.

As for 2017 OG Marcus Minor from Maryland, he is an interesting prospect but he projects as a guard on the next level and Miami needs Off Tackles.

I would like to see Miami throw the kitchen sink at 2017 OT Alex Leatherwood who is currently committed to Bama.

Yea, I know that class will have Donaldson and Dykstra as the OT's....but that's a "as of now" kind of deal. Brahms certainly has the IQ to play center

Z,
You project Dykstra as an OT at this level? I have him penciled in at G. Now he may have the potential to develop into a RT eventually but we are in desperate need of LT prospects at this point.

T Slaton is a must get no if and or maybe. Like I stated two years ago, the OL will make or break this class that is why it is so crucial, you win up front. I actually still think Slaton is the Best OT in Florida despite that some analyst view him as a guard. Yes he can play guard but he would have a bigger impact for us at OT, he also has Leatherwood by over 30 pounds which is impressive. For OT this cycle, our top targets should be Tony Gray, Alex Leatherwood, T Slaton, and Kai Leon Herbert. Let Florida keep Telfort, Not big on him and I do not see much improvement on his part from recent years. Our OG targets should be Caleb Chandler, Keep Donaldson, Netori Johnson, and Kyron Taylor. At center I would love to see Brahms move to that position and also Cody Bowes.

what makes you think because someone is 30 pounds heavier that they're more impressive?? Alex Leatherwood has two inches on him and is built like a truck and probably has the best footwork than anyone in the country not named Calvin Ashley. TeDarrell doesn't even play left tackle, He plays right tackle and he's viewed as a guard by everybody. Here's imo what our Tackle/guard/center board looks like not including our commits

OT:
1) Leatherwood/Herbert
2) Telfort
3) Ashley
4) Louisiana OT Adrian Ealy
5) Alabama OT Toryque Bateman
6) Georgia OT Tony Gray
7) Alabama OT Kendall Randolph

OG/C:
1) Robert Hainsey
2) Nick Brahms(G/C)
3) Marcus Minor
4) Cesar Ruiz(C)
5) Jean Marcellus(C)
6) Tedarrell Slaton
7) Netori Johnson
8) Cody Bowes(C)

I've said it before the staff IS recruiting Tedarrell but he's not a must get for them

When I watch film Salton is a true road grader. He's definitely a Guard. With college weight and technique training no DT/NG could stand him up at the point of attack. He's a natural **** strong powerful run blocker. Wish we wouldn't down grade his potential. Won't pretend like I know more than the staff, but Slaton better than Hainsey.

You have to wonder if there is something else up with slaton beyond football incompatibility with our program. Guy is a local beast. It doesn't add up that he's not a high priority.

One, I never said just cause he is 30 pounds heavier that makes him better(his skill set makes him better), I said him being 30 pounds heavier is impressive. Slaton gets challenged day in day out by quick twitch DEs which he held his own and faced guys like Burns everyday in practice. Two, every camp I have seen Calvin Ashley participate in he was destroyed. Slaton's feet is actually better and lighter than Leatherwood, Leatherwood is just taller, stronger and has longer arms, they actually run about the same 40 at 5.2. No way Telfort should be number two, if you watch any of the Norland games when he faced a real DE he was destroyed as well, thats why many was stating Cedric Jackson was the best OL on Norland's team.

Dude I've seen TeDarrell play live and he doesn't...at all. Again, He's an RT while Kai-Leon Herbert "the lesser prospect" is the LT for a reason...Slaton is a guard.

We need to make sure we keep navaughn Donaldson committed I'm sure it will be a fight but he is the best prospect in this class right now

Jerry Drake?

Surprised no interest in this kid considering he's in Palm Beach and teammates with Amari Carter. He supposedly has an Alabama offer but who knows.

Herbert isn't better than Slaton..Just Lighter AND MORE FIT...Slaton has better feet and is meaner in run blocking. If they have Herbert that high I don't like it..unless I see more improvement from this off season ...which could happen...

Again I'm not a fan of ol..with duck feet...stated it before. Herbert still is a high level div 1 tackle...I just don't see him as high rated as some...
