OL James Brockermeyer transfers to Miami

Mateer is a fool. He would have thrived under Dawson and this OL. He must have got bad advice from his group.
He doesn’t have an agent so probably made a heart decision to play close to home.

Agents are slimy in most aspects but this is one situation where it really could have benefited the kid to have one.

I don’t think Mateer had professional advice (read agent). Or at least that’s what was reported. OU locked him in a room with his OC from WSU and Venereal Disease and wouldn’t let him leave until he signed.

There were rumors in November that Arbuckle and Mateer were a done deal to OU

I don’t think we ever had a real chance lol. Kid had his mind made up the minute he knew they were interested. Also explains why the Oklahoma reporters were so confident

But going into your money year with that OL is certainly a choice

The not wanting to follow Cam info bothered me. Seemed scared he wouldn't measure up. I get the proximity to home being a draw but when you're drafted to the nfl you can be drafted far from home so that was a weak reason.

All he had to do was look at this offense and the numbers Cam put up and then go watch what OU put up(granted this will be a diff Off coord) and see what the best decision for him was. His parents must have pushed staying close to home IMO. No way someone with football knowledge would had advised him on going to OU with the roster they have on Offense. His OL will be atrocious and he will be running a lot.

His "group" was his family. He had no "group".

And Oklahoma was recruiting his family all fall semester.

People have put all this "done deal" mythology on the hiring of the WSU coaches, and while that was a big factor, it was towards the tail-end of a months-long process.

Mario should hire the DC, and then let the guy hire his own position coordinators. There is not a single defensive coordinator that deserves to return

I promise you, no single defensive coordinator will return.

The new DC will fire, retain, and/or hire whoever he wants at the position coach jobs.
