Tears Oklahoma Sooner Tears

Just reading some stuff on OU. One of their 247 writers was talking about the defense. His explanation was pretty simple:

Past defensive scheme vs current defensive scheme is like simple math to calculus. Guys are having trouble really picking up the whole scheme. He says that film generally shows 10 guys doing the right thing and 1 guy totally off more times than not. And it isn't always the same guy.

Will be interesting.. Their 247 guys was saying that the fan base is spoiled and not used to struggling. It's possible they will have to endure a 6-6 or 7-5 season or two while Venables gets the team right....

I wonder if other fanbases say this about us.
Miami is an elite program in this regard.

We here on CIS are the elite 5* room in said elite program.

#CFBFanBoardsNeedRealityShowLikeDeadliestCatch

Think of it...Deadliest Catch style reality show of Maimi, Texas, Bama, UGA, USC, et al fan boards.

"In Miami Porster BigHarryChongo says the NCAA hates the Hurricanes. Meanwhile 1,200 miles away in Austin, WhoseYerLongHornDaddy69 is preparing to intimately violate a live steer because he believes it will bring success in Saturday's Red River Rivalry game..."

DRAMEDY GOLDMINE.

Have fan bases refined their bullshït detectors so accurately that they just "know"?

For example, I knew Golden was a fraud from the moment he uttered "Are you kidding me!?"

True and cool story.

The SECOND I saw the Tie...I knew we were F*cked...The SECOND after the Maryland game...I wanted to strangle him with said Tie...

The inability to counter bubble screens vs them or the wide splits vs Wake Forest is not too different from our inability to adjust to defenses stacking the box against us this year.

We love hiring stubborn people.

-It’s still early and dc have different skill sets than hc. Some have skill sets which fit better in one v the other.

-regarding him taking over a team with a totally different style, well that’s true. It’s not like Riley left him overall with a bad roster, though.

-Early signs don’t look great but he deserves 2-3 years before full judgment.

-Regarding the comment on OU defenses also
Being bad when he was there not sure I agree.

As sole dc from 2011-2004 (in reverse) their scoring defenses were:

-31st
-33rd
-7th
-58th
-19th
-19th
-37th
-11th (before this season was a co-dc)

Since he left from 2012 to last year Oklahoma scoring defense has been:

-51st
-22nd
-56th
-29th
-69th
-68th
-102nd
-64th
-29th
-59th

I know there’s plenty of more defensive metrics to sift through but scoring defense is near the top. It’s pretty obvious that he as sole dc before he left versus after he left, that the proportion off very good/good seasons (top 20) or decent (top 40 offenses) Oklahoma had 4/8 top 20 scoring defenses and 7/8 top 40 scoring defenses versus 0/10 top 20 scoring defenses and 3/10 top 40 scoring defenses. Proportionally no matter how you categorize what’s a ‘good or solid’ scoring defense there’s a pretty large difference when he was there v. When he left. Additionally he still had solid defenses up until when he left including a top 10 defense in his 3rd to last year.

Also let’s simply take a look at Clemons’a overall team defense or scoring defense this year. Currently 43rd in scoring defense first year without Venables.

It’s still early for Clemsons defense too without him but let’s look at the last five years scoring defense with Venables in reverse:

-2nd
-18th
-3rd
-1st
-2nd

Pretty awesome. Again though it’s early w him as hc and whether Clemsons defensive output will be affected without him but it’s pretty hard to beat his consistent defensive output.

Oklahoma has always had defensive problems tho ....
