Oh We Talkin QBs

Until I see Kevin Olsen for myself, Ryan Williams is my pick to start in 2014.

I think the most likely case is that Williams starts and Olsen is brought along slowly and maybe takes over at some point in the season. Only way he starts right away is if he looks leaps and bounds better than Williams. If they're close, they'll probably wanna give the edge to the more experienced guy.

I'm not going to jump to conclusions on Williams based on a game where he was thrown in at the end because of an injury to Morris. I think he'll win the battle and start for a year as a senior in the offense and that's not a bad thing.

let the competition begin. i crown no one until they show me something in our Uniform

Is Olsen definitely going to redshirt? I know it seems the most logical, but if Dewey, Crow and Williams havent progressed from last year, i think Olsen will need to get actual game minutes. Guys like Johnny Football arent the norm. Most Freshman struggle mightily in their first year of action.

Ryan Williams haters I went back to the fall scrimmages to find this note from hurricanesports.com

"Quarterbacks Stephen Morris and Ryan Williams showed good footwork to elude pressure in the pocket and scramble for yards when needed. Morris completed 24-of-36 passes for 193 yards with four touchdowns and one interception towards the end of the scrimmage. Williams threw for 121 yards and three scores on 12-of-17 passing"

If Ryan Williams threw the ball 36 times as well who would've had better numbers?
I know Morris was hurt during the spring but here's some news from the spring practice reports.

"Ryan Williams has been very accurate on the short and intermediate routes even suprised a few with some deep throws down the field to Clive Walford and RaShawn Scott."

"In 7-on-7 action, quarterback Ryan Williams has been on point"

"The 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills were loaded with action today and several players stood out by making big plays. Quarterback Ryan Williams looked sharp once again as he connected with wide receiver Rashawn Scott multiple times for big gains over the middle and an 80-yard touchdown bomb. Tight end Clive Walford also had a couple of nice catches in traffic from Williams. Williams also hit Dorsett on a couple of short passes that he turned into big gains"

"Some highlights of the first session included Ryan Williams connecting with Rashawn Scott on a beautiful deep pass on the first play"

So from what I seem to hear and read about Ryan Williams is accuarcy, good feet among other things. The thing that suprised me is that he likes to throw the ball down the field. So for those talking about arm strength I've got to disagree with you there as well.
Ryan Williams haters
What makes you all say he doesn't throw downfield?
What makes you talk about his arm strength?
It seemed like the QB race was neck and neck.

I'd like to see the best QB start 2014 but my guess would be Ryan Williams

Why are so many people writing Preston Dewey off?

Why are so many people writing Gray Crowe off?

Because he has shown nothing more than being a workout warrior/gym rat type of kid. Not meant to be a negative against him - Simply stating that his on-field QB performance has never been anything that would lead one to believe he'll be anything more than hi energy depth. Even in HS, his passing never seemed to impress. Coach Golden seemed to like Crow as a workout kid moreso than a viable option as a starter. He IS a big, strong kid that the staff thought would make a good project recruit...but that's what he is, a project.
