Official Miami vs. #21 Iowa State Game Thread

Team needs to grow up and find an identity, too helter skelter.

FIVE GAMES IN.

Let that settle in, this is a team where a lot of pieces are either completely new, or new in their roles. Compare that to Iowa State, a program with legit experience and depth across the board. This was a case of Miami coming across a team early in the season that is just better suited for the situation at hand. You play this game three months from now, most likely closer, and the 'Canes may come out on top. Miami isn't hitting threes, 2/15 is far below the season average, so that makes you wonder if this was a case of fatigue from playing two games in two days. That said, it's a learning experience, and Coach L can bring these guys back down to earth, and continue to build them into a team that competes in the ACC.

The top of the key jumper from Murphy is an automatic brick. Plus he's nowhere near the basket, so we have a very tiny chance of grabbing the rebound. That play needs to be taken out of the offense post haste.

The rest of the schedule non conference is loaded with easy games for a good reason.

Team needs to find consistency before the ACC schedule kicks in.

If the team starts relying on KM to hit those shots we're in trouble for sure

This is the fifth game of a season with several freshman playing quality minutes so there will be some ups and downs as roles get figured out...patience.

Neither Reed nor DJ shot the ball well today. Especially Reed who missed threes we've come to expect him to hit. We didn't finish around the rim as a team either.

Murphy needs to learn his role and I'm fairly certain it's not trying to take people off the dribble or shooting bricks from the top of the key. Four turnovers. We had 19 as a team and they were spread around as Brown, Newton, and Reed had 4,3, and 3 respectively. We didn't have much rhythm on offense and everyone pressed to try and make something happen.

Learn and move on.

I agree. This isn't going to be the last game where the team gets its collective *** handed to it on a platter. The freshmens, all expected to contribute meaningful minutes, haven't played against competition anything close to what they saw today ever.

Really disappointed in Murphy and Reed so far this year. We need and expect more from both of them.

You're disappointed after one rough game. Good lord, this is the downside of this program becoming good, you get people who barely pay attention, but start flapping their gums after one possible loss to an experienced team.

Clearly you are the guy who just started watching. So far this year Reed is averaging 10 pts, scored 7pts last game and Murphy has started tying to dribble and score which is not his game.

This game exposed holes we could already see but I trust coach L to get the best out of this team. A winning conference record should get us to the dance.
