I don't understand this boards sudden infatuation with Bill O'Brien as a HC candidate
Porsters are desperately googling "football coaches who have had at least one good year"...

Yeah I know...........but hard pass for meDecent success when he was the HC at pedo State with all their Sandusky restrictions and he’s now the Bama OC.
Herbert looked terrible? Dude threw 32tds and only 6 picks his last yearI'm just not a big Mario fan. He's a great recruiter and will get us the pieces we need but GameDay decisions and game planning have been things I think he struggles with so much. I'm still amazed at how bad Herbert looked at Oregon just to go the chargers and look like a world beater. Just never been a fan of his.
I hope we interview Jamey Chadwell, Matt Campbell, and Bill O'Brien. I really don't get why O'Brien isn't refered more by everyone. I mean, I thought it was safe to say that he only failed in Houston because he was given too much responsibility. His first years there and at Penn state everyone thought he'd be a world beater.
I think we need to look around. People have been in full fanboy mode since Oregon beat OSU. We are in the position we are in right now because we handed the head coaching job over without doing due diligence. Lets do a proper coaching search this time.none of them. It's Mario. Offer him whatever it takes. Stop bs-ing me with Clark or Napier or some other shmuck. Mario is the answer. Anyone else for Miami is unacceptable.
Didn’t suggest steering clear of anyone; quite the opposite, in fact. I’m not excluding someone just because they don’t have head coaching experience. I think it would be negligent to ignore some of the coordinator talent, especially in the NFL.
#3 and #5This is solely for the possibility that Mario either turns it down, takes the USC gig, or the price is just too high.
1) Bill Clark
3 C-USA West titles, 2 conference championships, and he’s never had a losing record in CFB. In fact, he’s 43-23 at UAB who a year before he got there was 2-10. He’s even 11-4 on the FCS level. Basically Bill wins. That’s all he does. Hire him and surround him with recruiters and this very team is probably a 11 game winner.
2) Billy Napier
He’s a spark plug and maybe the jolt we need even though he’s a bit unproven which in my opinion isn’t a worry because of where he comes from before being an HC. Recruiting obviously is not a worry here. He used to be Saban’s preferred hit man for those who don’t remember.
3) Hugh Freeze
We all know who this is and we all know he’ll get the job done but questions with him is 1) would he be able to take us back to national power status or would be just short of that and 2) would the BOT make the call.
4) Jamey Chadwell
Resume isn’t as strong as Bill’s but other than his 1 year stint at Delta State he’s won everywhere he’s gone but he’s too new to FBS for me.
5) Lane Kiffin
He would take the job in a heart beat but I don’t think he’ll value defense enough that it’ll be dominate. I don’t care much foot ball has changed. Defense will always matter more than Offense
A name would be unpopular: Ken Dorsey
In Ken’s defense, it’s basically a fore gone conclusion that whenever Brian DaBoll take an HC job that he would become the Bills OC. UF loves to call Mullen a QB whisperer but if that’s the case then Ken is a QB Sensai with the work he did with Cam and Josh. They would ha e to surround him recruiters for sure but I wouldn’t be surprised if we heard his name.
I stopped reading after that. The ACC is brutally horrid.Dude is 28-10 at Oregon and 16-7 in conference play. The conference may be as bad or worse than the ACC.
I don't want him but Lane has no chance in the SEC West for the foreseeable future. I could see him seeing an opportunity to run train on the Coastal and at least having a shot at the playoff down here with our recruiting base. Some of you guys live in fantasy land... why would James Franklin leave PSU for Miami? Why would Lane leave SEC country for Miami? The only reason Mario would leave is because he would want to come home to his alma mater.
Has she even been a coordinator yet?If Blake is still AD, he'll just ask if any of the BoT members or other prominent Miami figures have a son who wants to Veruca Salt his way into becoming coach
But if we're dipping into smaller schools, Napier and Clark are guys who have won. Maybe even a Curt Cignetti, who was on Saban's early Bama staffs and has JMU rolling pretty well?
I'm trusting you all not to save this in case all these guys bust.
LULZ with the Mario infatuation. But bro, he beat OSU bro. Dude is 28-10 at Oregon and 16-7 in conference play. The conference may be as bad or worse than the ACC. He is 2-2 in bowl games there, so that may be the upgrade.
Almost anything is an upgrade over Diaz. From day one I and others saw the continuation of failure in his hire. But there were many here that continued to support hiring of Diaz off the UM coaching stump. Perhaps, just maybe, it is time we get an AD with a clue, one that might interview a few coaches and not just give the job to a guy because he has UM connections.
If Mario is the best out there, so be it. We will not win championships with him. He does not have the it factor. Bro, look what he is doing at Oregon, he was under Saban and learned. Yeah, okay. If it happens I look forward to the next Cane everyone thinks is the savior, say in about four years, or just the sheer mediocrity the BoT will accept with a few more wins a season.
Cane fans should demand more, and Mario is not it.
But they managed him with kid gloves. I watched a couple Oregon games that year and they utilized Herbert like a game manager. He's looked so much better as a pro than a collegiate player. It's disconcerting.Herbert looked terrible? Dude threw 32tds and only 6 picks his last year
Jimmy Johnson was 29-25-3 at Oklahoma State before he was hired by Sam Jankovich. You can’t expect Butch to be killing it at FIU with 2-Star recruits.Butch would be such a Miami thing. He’s 69 years old and is 24-23 at FIU. I wanted him so bad whe. We hired Richt but that was like 7 years ago
