Offensive Playcalling

It's so funny seeing people talk about how Fisch was crap because his offenses stunk it up in the big game. Please tell me again about how Coley's offense is so dominant against good teams. I also love how everyone talks about how guys are young and not just not executing under Coley's offense. Maybe you forgot almost every starter this year was a starter last year except they were 1 year younger. Somehow, younger and inexperienced they performed fine in Fisch's offense. Yes, the offense did disappear at times with Fisch, but as a whole they were explosive and except for ND and K st, there were not whole games where we had no offense. I never doubted our ability to score last year. This year our offense disappears far more often, and I question our ability to score every drive now it seems, even against mediocre teams. Our numbers are up a little in scoring and yards (i think 5 points and 18 yards per game), but considering we are playing a much weaker schedule, and our defense is actually able to stop someone now and get the ball back to our offense quicker, I would expect that.

Our offense flowed under Fisch and with how bad our defense was last year, our offense is the only reason we won as many games as we did. If we had the offense we have this year with the defense from last year, we might be lucky to get 5 wins last year.

Good points but a lot of that is on the QB.

A lot is on the qb, but the qb was effective last year. Nearly all factors, as far as the depth chart is concerned, are the same. The only thing that has changed is the OC. If the qb has regressed, but the only influencing factor that has changed is the OC (while assuming all receivers, OL, and rbs have improved or at least stayed the same), then the #1 thing you have to look at is the OC.

I'm not saying Coley sucks or he is this or that, I'm just saying this is why people are looking at Coley as the problem and many liked Fisch better. Personally, I think the problem is Morris and Coley don't fit together more than the fact that Morris has regressed and then there is still Morris's injury. The OC's job is to put the offense in a position to succeed. Fisch obviously understood Morris's strengths and weaknesses and obviously made his playcalling fit Morris, and Morris flourished. Our offense looked so good, and despite the fact that everyone hated how Fisch used our run game, our run game was still pretty good last year (possibly because everyone was so busy worried about our pass game) and we were often in positions where we had no choice but to pass. Coley is doing well enough with our run game, but our passing game has fallen so far behind under him.

As far as I see it, the problem in this case is Coley's play calling or Morris's injury, or both. Morris looks worse, but I still think its a product of the OC who is not making adjustments to the personnel he has.
