Offensive Line woes- 247 Pod

I said this before. It will ruffle feathers. SoFla Lineman, specifically tackles just are not talented. It takes years to teach them schemes(are coaching is questionable we know). They are big and dominate the DL that So Fla schools use. Most DEs in So Fla are like 6'5 200 lbs. 300 lb kid gets their hands on that, it wont be hard to move them. Once in college a kid like Rosseau goes to 260, gains strength and keeps speed, destroys that same OL that is now 305 cause they dropped a little fat, added muscle and stayed the same speed and flexibility. Hence why Donaldson has not progressed. Sam Young sucked, Avery Young sucked....

And this is why Manny stuck with Nelson an App state kid over Kai Leon Herbert, Donaldson, Scaife, etc. as the left tackle all year. His ceiling is much higher. El Gammal or Rivers will be the right tackle next year so buckle up cause we need S&C coach more than ever.

Basically every “tackle” recruited and signed the last few cycles has turned out to be a liability outside with their only shot at playing by switching to guard.

At this point I’d rather Miami go out and find some tall underweight athletic projects who played football, basketball, and wrestling in high school and try to develop them into tackles over 3 years. The current recruiting basically stockpiles this team with tall bad guards and no tackles other than the best guard on the team (scaife) and Nelson.

There is no short term solution at tackle other than actually hitting on guys like Walker who decide early Miami isn’t for them. Long term they need some actual athletes to try to play tackle since they apparently can’t recruit any athletic tackles who might be ready to play early.
 
I have been yelling at the clouds over our OL recruiting for ages.

Our evals have been terrible. And we consistently fail to have depth and competition.

We had an exchange or few last summer on this topic. I was told we had talent because rivals ratings or something. How’d that tun out?

It’s nice that we have had a couple OL go to the league over the years, but overall we have had major issues and Diaz ain’t seeming to fix them.

As for whoever mentioned Flowers above, that kid was obviously the best OL in his class coming out of HS. Lucane and I discussed it on this board. He blocked for Duke so mo one missed him on film.

ElGammel is an ex hoops player from nyc. You think he shows up better trained than local kids at technique?

That but also our evals have been awful and we over recruit combo tweeers. We rarely recruit pure LTs and not enough true pure OGs either. Compounded by bad evals and bad development, here we are.

It’s hard to find pure left tackles in HS..those are always the highest rated kids..we haven’t been able to reel those in

I actually like zions athletic profile and his HS film. Just think he was thrown into start too early. He has some technical things he can clean up but he moves really well..I like the kid Washington also..and not just because the staff recruiting them lol..but we need to land some better prospects not only by the star system but by evals

Im not attacking zion. It’s not his fault we had no other options. That is our staffs fault.

it appears that the OL we get from Iowa, Georgia, Orlando, South Carolina, etc are also bad. What’s the difference?
