Offensive Line is a Weakness

The Tommy Kennedy issue aside I fail to see how Manny and Butch are to blame for the hand they are dealt. Manny had no say what went on with offensive recruiting while he was DC; so how’s he responsible for the lack of talent on the OL? Blame him for this past recruiting class fine, but he had what a month or two to piece an OL class together?

This seems like piling on for the sake of piling on. The OL is a mess and while scheme could help it wouldn’t solve the issue - Roman readily admits this. The OP seems like much ado about nothing. We know OL sucks. We know Zion shouldn’t be playing, but he is...what does that say about the guys behind him? Now, if you want to argue Enos and Butch are deliberately playing inferior players on purpose then I have to ask why would they do that? What’s the end game there? If they are playing the best players, then do you still blame Manny for the multiple misses at the OL spot despite his nothing having a say in the matter until now?

Enos more than anyone deserves blame (Searles and Richt are to blame for the personnel issue) because he should be scheming around the OL....tempo and quick passing game (undercenter and shotgun...balance in order to still provide diversity to run game). The opening drive against UF should be the offense’s blueprint until the guys up front improve (Reed should have been starting over Donaldson for the simple fact that fat *** Donaldson can barely walk).

Try to remain factually correct. Manny didn’t bring in Kennedy. Right and Searles did. Also, how exactly was Manny to prevent Reed from transferring?

As someone already pointed out, Richt was recruiting Kennedy. Also, there was no downside to taking a grad transfer LT that other programs were looking at. We kept recruiting the GT transfer also, just didn't land him.

Again who are we going to bench zion for?

I agree with Reed. I don't like him, D Smith, and Bethel leaving the team.

I was blasted for complaining about this 2019 OL class. I didn’t have a problem with any given one of the four kids including Kennedy. I thought Kennedy would work out given his tape and all the talk about him; and liked the high floor of Clark. Nelson was the guy I liked the least of all by far. But while he has far outperformed my expectations, he doesn’t deserve to sniff the field for another two seasons. And as a group, there were no elite kids, all projects. Miami is too good of a program to fill a position group with that much risk. Again, blame lies with previous staff. But we desperately need talent along the OL now.

You can’t stop kids like that from leaving. What are you supposed to do? Promise more playing time to somebody who hasn’t earned it? Do that, and you’ll be trying to convince more important players from transferring.

What is on the roster is not the fault of this current staff. The decision to start who was on it when there was better options was. Week 0 with Campbell showed that. And if Zion continues to be marched out there (especially after last week) is a big concern for me. He should not be the starter for a program like Miami right now. He is a guy who needs time. So put out a guard masking as a tackle until we let him develop or recruit it better in total.

And Enos can help. Wont fix the big issue. But 3rd and 11 play actions under center when you average 1.5 yards a rush is not helping.

What would you like to see as the starting OL? And, if they put in the OL lineup that you want and it performs worse, will you start a new thread stating that you were wrong.

Also, are you going to acknowledge that you were incorrect on Kennedy?

The main blame I would lay on Manny’s doorstep is his lack of aggressively finding more 0L transfers after winter/spring camp. He was the DC under Richt so should have known there were issues. And by March, it should have been clear that we were in great trouble. There had to of been someone in some camp somewhere better than what we had on the field.

Roman, I also agree with you that Diaz and Enos should have known better than to start Campbell against Florida, or certainly should have substituted Scaife over to tackle within the first few series. And of course the playcalling doesn’t adjust for our OL weakness enough. ... And the hype was just plain snake oil salesman ship. Many has to stop that.

I agree with you about Enos not helping, but you even admitted to that not addressing the real issue.

Now, in terms of who is playing do we know that the guys behind Zion deserve to play? Sure, we should give them a shot during the game if Zion is struggling, but who is there that is deserving?

The OL position has been a comedy of errors when we look at how that position was recruited and evaluated the last few classes. Not sure how the previous staff’s mishandling the position is the current staff’s responsibility or should be held to task for it?

The more valid argument is with the current ****show on the OL are we taking enough 2020 OL recruits? The answer is no. We need more and should be looking for GT and JUCO.

No. But it is getting really really old. "We want kids who WANT to be Hurricanes" They all WANTED to be Hurricanes. They signed. That rule applies to those who are recruits IMO. Miami has 74 scholarship players. They have depth concerns in the secondary and the offensive line. But the last 3 guys who left were at those positions.

Miami is not Clemson or Alabama. They haven't been. They need to stop pretending they are something they aren't. They need to think about changing their tune. They need to keep the expectations realistic, genuine and honest.

Miami by pounding on their chest, (not winning) and doing what they have been are letting astronomical numbers of players walking out the door. They put themselves in a situation where they are one cycle of miss or a couple of injuries away from starting true freshmen at the offensive line.

Just like this year. And our senior class? 2016?

1 just redshirted
1 barely plays
2 got hurt with career ending injuries
2 left for the draft
and
NINE left the program

Herbert is a Guard, they play him at Tackle out of necessity but he's never had the footwork, technique nor toughness needed to ever be a proper Tackle at the college level.

Hillery has been the most shocking let down due to his size, seems like he should've been a legit RT since he's been here but he's been moved back forth between G & T because he just lacks the strength to hold up.

Zion has been terrible no doubt, but seriously bro the others are far worse.
