Observations after a week of practice

We really don't have any freaks at DE.

We have unproven freshmen/sophomores and tweeners(too small for DT, too big for DE) who've already peaked.

We seriously need monsters at DE. Like what Ohio State had this year. Guys who will play in the NFL.
How many of those OSU dlineman where from the portal? It’s zero. We spent A LOT of money on a very talented dlineman, so let’s Taylor develop our room.

This team is loaded with talent, and you could see many on this squad being future 1st-3rd Rd. picks playing on Sunday. Which is why it’s imperative we win the ACC this year, no more excuses. If we can’t win this god-awful conference with this team, like, what are we even doing?
You’d think that this starting 4 could do some damage but it’s just really dependent on Bain being better and Blay making a successful jump in competition

DE Bain
DT Blay
DT Scott
DE Messidor

You got me. 🤣

Let me ask you a question, is there anyone not named Bain (I don’t exclude him confidently) who starts at Oregon, OSU, UGA, etc.? No. That should tell everyone our DL is not good enough to compete at a high level.
None of our defensive ends outside of Bain and Messidor has ever started for Miami.

I think you need to see some of the younger guys actually play before just claiming they’d never started at Oregon or Georgia. I’m 100% positive any of those teams would take Armando Blount. Malik Bryant was also offered by Alabama.

It's honestly dependent on all of them need Scott to make a jump as well seems like he's still learning and transitioning from being a basket ball player. Also need Mesidor to go back to how he was when he first got here.

I could not disagree with you more. Bain will play in the NFL, Blount we’ll play in the NFL, Mesidor will play in the NFL, the freshman from California, will play in the NFL. You’re selling our defensive end room way too short. That was bad scheme and coaching that happened to that room last year.
That's because he has no idea what he's talking about. I mean he's sucking off Lagway for his pedestrian play against one of our worst defenses in the last 20 years. SMH

I'm one of those. The backer room is not good enough for headed into Year 4. Bar none.

2022 Transition class -- Wesley Bissainthe

2023 First class -- Malik Bryant (Not even playing backer anymore)
Popo Aguirre -- Composite #204 player in America. Officials to Taint, Texas, Bama, and UiF.
Bobby Washington -- 4-star (barely, but was) developmental kid
Marcellius Pulliam -- Transferred to Michigan State

2024 Class -- Adarius Hayes (#123 player on the composite, major offers)
Bobby Pruitt -- composite 3-star kid who was always going to take a year or two to put on the size
Jaylin Alderman -- Nope

2025 Class -- Wiley and Marcelin (You shouldn't be relying on true freshmen to play major snaps for you in Year 4, so these kids are TBD)

Those 2023 and 2024 classes should provide the backbone of your room. But you really only yielded 1 backer in the 2023 class, and he hasn't proven anything yet in 2 years. Maybe he takes the leap, but he hasn't yet

The 2024 class, Pruitt was always going to be AT BEST 2025 before he really makes a major impact, but where is Hayes? When you recruit the #123 kid in the country, you're counting on him to be an impact player in Year 2. It's Year 2 for him. Vamos.

So, all in all, this isn't good enough. BUT, it was never going to be if both Aguirre and Hayes are busts. I'm not saying they are, especially not Hayes, but it's time to go.

If you can line up Bissainthe and then 2 other kids who have talent enough to play at the other schools who were recruiting them, we should be fine. But if Aguirre and Hayes are both below-average, then this is the same concern as many of us had in 2024 with the secondary. And it's on the staff to not have the talent up to par. You can't miss on both your highest ranked backer commits back to back seasons. If you do, you better bring in a portal kid (or two) a **** of a lot better than Jaylin Alderman.
**** I forgot about Hayes. 🤦🏻‍♂️

This isn’t a championship team lol. Y’all want to skip steps so bad. You don’t go from being bad 20+ years to a championship team over night. When is the last time Miami has had back to back 10 win seasons? Have only played in the acccg 1 time. Has never won the acc. And you talking about elite and championship lol. Win 10 games again and win this shítty conference then maybe you can start talking about elite and championship in a couple years
It’s 2025, year four under Mario, with a portal that speeds everything up and a crazy NIL budget. Skip steps? What are we even talking about? Last year was a colossal failure because our defense was the worst I’ve ever seen in my lifetime with a championship offense.

Going into Spring, the defensive line and linebacker room haven’t upgraded and we still don’t even know who’s playing safety. Miss me with those excuses and low standards.

Don’t think anything would be helpful in that case

There’s a lot of bytching and moaning in this thread right now. If this was the team going into the fall I’d say it’s 8-9 wins. If we upgrade lb, safety and WR. That could add a win or two. Tough to think we will beat Clemson in acccg, considering few have done that and it seems like Klubniks gone from zero to hero with Riley. They also significantly upgraded DC position as well. We are a tier below the title contenders and a tier above where we’ve been for 20 years. Still not up to standard of old

I think this team can be better than that with 3-4 playoff caliber adds in the Spring portal.

4 years in and 3 DCs

A wise poster once said Mario brings no advantage coaching wise so he has to hire homerun coordinators

Not sure where Dawson stands. I like him a lot but he’s gonna definitely earn it this year

Heatherman? We just gotta hope beyond all hope he’s that homerun
