It’s early in spring, but first impressions are still valuable. Here are some things I’m seeing and hearing after a week on Greentree:

- Xavier Lucas and Zechariah Poyser look impactful. Lucas is huge at CB and made a beautiful INT in one-on-one coverage on Wednesday. His straight-line speed and length allow him to recover when he does get beat. Poyser is twitchy and smart with ball skills.

Lucas was the #1 CB in the Portal, and Poyser was the #2 safety. Both rankings look...

If Blount, Lowe and McConathy (the Bigger DE's) can step up, I am guessing we don't portal a DE this Spring. They are all young so that would be rolling the dice if Mesi or Bain went down. I was expecting Bryant to step up. While adding weight, he is not big.
Given those names, I'm curious who sticks out of Rudolph, Pickett and Lightfoot.

Dont forget Scroggins too. I think he is an interesting eval. I am a believer that if the talent is there you take it and acquire it but based on what we have on paper we have needs elsewhere than DE this portal cycle What is our current DE depth chart?

Bain - McConathy- Lowe - Scroggins - Rudolph
Mesidor - Blount - Lightfoot - Bryant - Pickett

I mean not that all those guys are 3 down DEs but that is a pretty solid 5 deep lol I would honestly be shocked to not lose someone on DL and LB in the spring portal. New DC, probably some personalities wont jive, passed up for playing time whatever but couple that with D$ comment about needing another LB as well seems we are making contingency plans which is smart.

With essentially only 2 LB on the field the fact none of the upperclassman (chase smith, Wes, Popo) are getting a ton of buzz and the buzz seems to be around Pruitt and Wiley and who knows what is going on with Bobby and Hayes but we have numbers in the room

So if you're 5th string and not a freshman, are you sticking around, especially given this era of NIL? Same with LBs. Seems like we are on the same page with this.

I’d be shocked if we portal a DE. We have Bain/Mesidor, 3 5 star recruits, and
Pickett/Bryant/Rudolph/McConathey/Scroggins.

If we can’t field a strong unit out of that, something is wrong.
Agree. DE is the last position group we need to add to. WR, DT, LB and depth on OL and RB are way more in need of help

Once Mesodor announced he was returning I always thought Portal DE didn't make much sense. Like sure if we end up losing someone in Spring we may have to replace, but otherwise No.

NT is the clear bigger need as things stand. Unless Blay can hold up at NT and we expect Moten to take the next step.

Safety we could really use a guy that can start in case of injury. Though I do expect Lucas or Damari to be a safety... And between Poyser, one of them, Patterson, and Day we may be ok.

Lb is the most interesting to me. Wes is ok. But he has basically a guaranteed starter, which isn't good. There's like no chance he doesn't start. He needs to improve and be good for us, otherwise staff needs to move on and add a top 3 down starting LB.

Prove me wrong Mario.
Hate to agree w you here. I was hoping we’d bring in like 10 of those former old head head coaches to help us w game day strategies since we blow it down the stretch of the seasons. Idk if thats the solution but hate what teams like GT and Syracuse did to us.

Blay and moten will likely play it. Blay played NT last year so why wouldn’t he hold up? Think Mario prefers his DTs with movement ability rather than the old traditional big run stopping NT
