The talent on the team sucks right now, and a third round pick isn't going to change the DL around. The difference would be negligible.

So the difference between a DE producing in the NFL vs Shayon Green and Kelvin Cain would be negligible? I don't buy that for one second.

Yes. Why do you think a DE who had 3.5 sacks last year playing with MUCH better talent would make the DL anymore effective this year, playing next to MUCH, MUCH worse DT's? I mean, hey, maybe we get another 2-3 sacks, and 6-7 more QB pressures, but that doesn't add up to very much over a 12 game season.

Vernon's talent was obvious. In fact, if he had gone to a school like Alabama, he may have been a first round pick. But the way he was here, combined with what is asked of our DL, his presence was not going to change the defense much, if at all. Of course I'd rather have Vernon than Shayon Green . . . but this would still be a ****** D that gets no pressure on the QB.

Our 2007 DL sucked *** when it had Calais Campbell, and Vernon was not nearly as good as Calais was in college. What we are seeing is basically our 2007 DL right now.

Of course I think Vernon > Green. I just don't think it would show based on the way this DL is playing. Right now the entire DL, including Chick, plays pattcake with the OL. I don't see that changing if Vernon was here.

That's crazy. If the DL was better our D would be a lot better period. The schemes D'O and Golden run (whether you or I like it) are proven to work with the right personel.

They're proven to work against teams from the MAC.


Honestly what makes you think our DL would look much different with Vernon here? If he's playing next to guys like Corey King I don't think he is going to be very effective. Vernon was talented but let's not get it wrong, he was a third round pick. He isn't doing that much to make this DL with Darius Smith and Corey King playing DT better. He had 3.5 sacks his last year here.

Him being better and more athletic than Green makes me and many others believe that LOL If all those Juniors came back Miami would be a **** of a lot better. Second year in the system. Plus we would have been able to redshirt McCord and/or Hamilton who both need it.

Seriously, I don't see how one 3rd round underachieving DE is going to make our DL much better. In this system, Vernon didn't do much. He had 3.5 sacks last year surrounded by MUCH better talent. He'd be around the worst talent in his career after having probably the worst season of his career, but he's going to make our DL noticeably better?

Yeah, I doubt that. That's not really a knock on him, either.

Of course our D would be better if all those juniors came back, but let's stay on topic.

Well, lets see. He would be enough of a pass rusher to draw the occasional double team first of all. He is above average against the run. The biggest problem with our run defense is not having someone who can set the edge, or draw a double team to free up a 'backer He would be the strong side and allow Chick to play the weak side. Oh and his 3.5 sacks came after a 6 game suspension! But hey your right he would suck! Funny thing about your post is you contradict yourself with the last sentence of your post! Way to go......

He had 3.5 sacks in 6 games. Double that and you get 7. I know you can't just say he would have had 3.5 more if he played in all 12 games, but just some food for thought.
