He was also excellent against the run.

The last sack was a bull rush, but it looks like he's added some moves to his repertoire.

Surprisingly he's been decent in coverage as well. Last week he made a really nice play/deflection 20 yards from the LOS; next snap resulted in the game-ending interception.

Its not surprising. He had potential to be a really great player. He was hurt most of last year but he has all the physical tools you look for. Glad he is ripping it up, wish he was still a Cane but wish him luck. The DL would look so much better with a Vernon-Chick DE tandem.

I wish I could say I believed that, but I don't for a second. And that's nothing against Vernon, either. I think he's just another player who did not reach his potential at UM. If he had stayed for his senior year, our DL would not look much better.

You don't think Vernon > Green? That's nonsense. A 3rd round pick as a true Junior (someone who is doing well in the NFL) vs a kid who won't be picked as a RS Senior.

Look at what Vernon did vs FSU last year, in our system. Kid was a beast.
 
Of course I think Vernon > Green. I just don't think it would show based on the way this DL is playing. Right now the entire DL, including Chick, plays pattcake with the OL. I don't see that changing if Vernon was here.

That's crazy. If the DL was better our D would be a lot better period. The schemes D'O and Golden run (whether you or I like it) are proven to work with the right personel.
 
The proof is in last season. The D was much better with them. Even with Forston on skates getting pushed backwards. I think Forston took the whole We Skate thing the wrong way.

They're proven to work against teams from the MAC.


Honestly what makes you think our DL would look much different with Vernon here? If he's playing next to guys like Corey King I don't think he is going to be very effective. Vernon was talented but let's not get it wrong, he was a third round pick. He isn't doing that much to make this DL with Darius Smith and Corey King playing DT better. He had 3.5 sacks his last year here.

Our DL wouldn't be much better with Vernon here because he'd still be taking plays off like he did here last year. Sad he never gave it all for UM but now he wants to turn up for the sorry *** Dolphins.
