How many’ships will we be able to grant next year is an open question. While none of us, or even the staff can be certain at this point, but I can analyze the roster and possibly shed some light on the issue.

Currently we have 67, plus eighteen incoming (assuming everyone qualifies). That puts us at the NCAA cap max of 85!

It does not, however, consider the usual attrition that follows spring practice, or end of semester. There are ALWAYS some guys who, because of their spot on the depth chart, realize that they won’t sniff the field, and decide to transfer elsewhere for PT. I see at least six (6) candidates in this category; Cain, King, Cleveland, Cornelius, Armbruster and possibly Rodgers or Highsmith, who already has his degree.

We have eighteen (18) seniors that will depart after this season. So we start with that number and factor in this year’s attrition (above). But note, those eighteen include 4 of the possible transfers mentioned above.

But, in addition to the attrition listed above, there are other types of possible departures, as well. (1) Will Thompson abandon football for BB only?; (2) Will Eddie J. shape-up and fly right?; (3) Will either Dewey/Crow transfer after spring competition? I can easily forsee as many as five (5) departures prior to next season. Being conservative, let’s say three (3). That leaves at least twenry 20 available ‘ships for the 2014 cycle.

But, again, following the 2014 spring workouts, we will again have some of the usual attrition. Who, or why, it is extremely hard to predict at this time. The only possible upperclassman who may be buried on the 2014 depth chart is Perry. And there may be a couple of underclassmen as well.

So, as we look ahead to the 2014 cycle, I see at least 21 available ‘ships, and as many as 24, or so.

Obviously, this does not factor in any possible NCAA sanctions, or academic/disciplinary actions (ala Finnie). The fact that mid-year EEs may come, will be of no effect because we will be at the 85 limit. [/B]

We don't have much depth at safety or linebacker at the moment so its tough to see some of those guys leaving.

Its too early but I'm guessing we sign a full class this year.

A 'full class' is twenty-five (25). We might not have the room.

I know what it is. I think we make room but just not sure where it comes from yet.

23+ when all said and done I think.

It sucks, but we need to say **** it and sign full classes every year like the SEC does....cut the dead weight to make room if you have to. This isn't a charity anymore. The big boys are treating this like a business, and if we want to compete we need to be a little more ruthless. Alabama just signed a full class and they only had something like 14 spots.

You guys have alot of time on ya hands to figure out these numbers how do you know this or are you just guessing this info?

no offense, but, any talk of number of ships w/ the ncaa sanctions looming is just a waste of time. i doubt we have attrition of 7-8 guys. that rarely happens. 3-4 after spring due to transfers/kicked off team/graduates is about right.
like i've said in numerous other threads, we usually start the year around 79-81.

Respectfully, please read the origonal post. That will answer your question. To explain again, part is by analysing the roster, as I did, and part is pure conjecture (but educated conjecture), as I pointed out. The basis for my opinion should be quite clear.

Maybe I'm wrong but didn't the SEC recently implement some rule to prevent this from happening?

Texas A&M just signed 47 kids or some **** like that, didnt they?

Checked. UGA had 32, A&M 31, UiF 29. Thought AM had more.

How do u figure u can count 7-8 against this past year? We didn't leave 7-8 on the table. We signed pretty much as many as we could sign. U can't just count whatever the difference is from 25 minus the number you sign.

Someone (think it was Tokengator) posted Alabama's roster coming up and it was 90 something kids. 95 maybe? That was before those arrests though

Cain, Cornelius, Cleveland, Rodgers and Highsmith are all seniors next season so that wouldn't count as attrition.

We have 18 seniors so it will be 18 plus whoever we lose in the spring,
