Notre Dame Defense...not really that good???

Just to play devil's advocate, but...

Our offensive numbers haven't exactly come against top defenses either.

I feel ya...I think we haven't even played a great offensive game yet though. We have certainly left a lot of points on the field. We should have hung 50 on NCST and 30 in the first qtr.

Agreed. Just imagine when we put together a complete game...

I think Te'o is a classy cat though.

He seems like a guy you definitely want on your side...

There are a couple of things I'm expecting to see tomorrow to really exploit ND:

1) No huddle as much as possible. If we can keep they're starting 7 on the field for long drives, it'll pay huge dividends late in the game. We have plenty of talented bodies on offense and should really focus on just wearing them out.

2) I think we'll see quite a bit of shotgun, at least until Fisch sees how we handle they're front 7. Who cares if we're balanced or not? NCST gave the throw to us all game, why should we stop throwing just to have a balanced offense?

3) Trick plays-I would be willing to bet any dollar amount we see a HB/WR pass at some point tomorrow. We'll see if they stay home if we start rushing to the sidelines. Their LBs are pretty good in coverage, but have a tendency to swarm. Couple that with a bad secondary and...

No huddle that *** to minimize the personnel getting breathers.

Gonna be loud as **** all night, like KSU and GT. Communication on D will be tested again.

I do think you have a point, that they have not defended a good balanced offense yet. We'll score if we can stay balanced, which could be really hard at times against their front 7. My biggest concern is their MLB scaring our WRs away from going over the middle; he's an intimidating dude right in the center of the field.

Nah - Hurns ain't scurred

Just some offensive numbers

Michigan Pass yards 90th in the country at 209 a game and 46th in rushing at 184

Michigan State pass yards 62nd in the country at 237 a game and 82nd in rushing at 147

Purdue pass yards 44th at 262 and 32nd in rushing at 201.

Navy......who gives a ****?

Miami 15th in passing at 328 and 84th in rushing at 144.

They have not played a passing offense like us and I don't think that secondary is ready for us to run probably 70/30 pass/run. I would have thought the rushing totals for us would be better but we have abandoned the run in games to go with an aggressive passing offense.

We spread the field with the pass, use our speed, back the linebackers off the line and start running the ball. Rinse and repeat. 35-21 Good guys

Look at who they have played....and who the teams they beat played. Nothing to write home about. Honestly.

Navy...garbage
Michigan...one dimensional
Mich St...garbage
Purdon't...garbage

They are not Alabama....

We limit mistakes and stack the box...we win. They can't throw the ball as well as NC St thankfully and can't run the ball as well as GT.

I honestly believe we can score 1 more point than them. That's all we need.

Morris and Co. 'bout to light that *** up.

I HATE ND with tremendous passion! And because of that hatred I follow this team closely hoping they'll lose every game (keep your friends close and your enemies closer).

In my opinion, their offense is much better than any team we've faced. Their QB has a cannon and can run. Their RBs are fast and shifty...especially Cierre Wood (dude's a beast)...if they get to the outside on us we are in trouble. RB Atkinson runs a sub 10.4 electronic! They are fast at WR...Daniels, Brown, and Neal can fly. So we can't sleep on these fools.

On defense their CBs are inexperienced but extremely fast. Russell ran a 4.5 at the Opening in 2011...Atkinson and Jackson are literally some of the fastest football players in the country. That chump Tuitt treeted the other day that he did 3 reps at 425, Bunche will need to match him strength for strength.

We can beat these fools, but understand these punks are fast and big. Our WRs need to run good routes and everything hinges on the play of our OL and DL. Fisch will run circles around their D coordinator, but I can't say the same about Coach D.

I'm re-watching the Michigan-Notre Dame game right now.

NDs DL isn't that big IMO. Nix plays the nose at 305lbs and their two DEs are both 300 lbs. Shembo and Spond, their two OLBs are both 250. Teo is 260 and their other starting MLB is 240.

On that first drive they had a a safety playing who was a WR on their scout team just last year.

On the first play of the game, Robinson got to the edge fairly easily on a sweep. You have to figure ND knew he'd want to do that and just wasn't able to stop it. I think we can have sucess getting to the edge on them. On other run plays that drive the ND DL didn't have any noticeable penetration to disrupt Michigan's run game.

On the first obvious passing down they had Shembo rush from the RDE, Tuitt and Lewis-Moore, their starting DEs, were their DTs and they brought in Ishaq Williams to rush opposite Shembo.

They didn't get any pressure on Robinson at all on that 3rd and 7. That may have been a result of coaching however. With a quarterback like Robinson back there you have to rush the QB with discipline as to not give him any lanes to run with. I don't know if Morris will get that same kind of respect, but he can definitely make them pay if he get's the time Robinson got on that play. Robinson still ended up taking off for a first down on that play. Whether or not ND was on a full rush, or a controlled rush, Michigan's OL handled them with ease.

The next 3rd and long (9), ND brought both MLBs up the middle and Michigan picked it up nicely. Michigan had a WR wide open on a dig route, but Robinson, being the bad quarterback he is threw the ball high and missed him.

On the second drive (after a Golson interception) Michigan got the ball on the +10 yard line.

1st play: Michigan runs a toss sweep and ND rallies to the ball pretty nicely for 2 yard loss. The play failed because Michigan's WR tried to block down on NDs OLB (Spond) and failed miserably.
2nd play: Michigan runs a half rollout, but the LDE, Tuitt, does a nice job of beating the cut block from the RB and keeping contain. Robinson is forced to step up right into the arms of Shembo who beat the LT inside for the sack.
3rd down from the 15: Tuitt beats the RT with a nasty bullrush for a sack. Their other starting DE, Kapron Lewis-Moore also blew up the LG with a nasty bullrush. He drove the guard right into Robinson.

I'm gonna keep watching to get an idea of what they do, but these are just my observations from their first two defensive drives.

I mentioned that earlier. No one is talking about their offense. Not only do they have a mobile QB, they have dangerous dangerous RBs that are faster than any of ours not named Duke. Riddick was a WR, Atkinson has elite FL speed and could easily break one on special teams, and Wood is probably the best RB of them all.

ND beats us in every phase of the game except our passing game versus their secondary. That is the one and only advantage we have. I predicted their offense scores 38 but i would not be shocked if they put up KSU numbers on us.

Almost ALLLLL upper classmen starting...

And that is on both sides of the ball. They have VERY few freshmen/sophmores on the field.

Remember the men vs. boys statement Golden made after KState? We will see how serious our "boys" are about being real Hurricanes Saturday night.

They have a freshman starting at the most important position though. I fully expect our defense to keep us in the game. If that happens and we give Morris some time, their secondary can't hang with our WRs. Also, we just played back and back games against teams made up of mostly upperclassmen so its not like we haven't improved.

question is... can we be balanced?

we have ran well on some teams and passed well on some teams but we have yet to do both effectively. GT was the closest thing to being well balanced we have seen yet.

I just watched the third drive for Michigan's offense. They drove down the field with ease on ND. Robinson was able to find WRs running free in zones for some good chunk plays. ND got no pressure when Michigan ran playaction. The only reason that drive failed is because Michigan went full ****** with a HB pass that intercepted at the goaline.

Check their offensive numbers. They are bad. Very bad. Best offense we faced? Why are they ranked in the 90s? Their QB has been pulled twice already this season. And its not like they have played elite defenses either. Outside of Michigan State they have gone up against average defenses in Michigan, Purdue and Navy.

Lets take a look at their RBs against Navy:

Riddick - 19 107 2 tds 5.6 per carry
Atkinson - 9 99 2 tds 11 per carry

Other 3 games:

Riddick - 44 135 0 tds 3.07 per carry
Atkinson - 10 47 0 tds 4.7 per carry

I know our defense is bad but this might be the easiest matchup for our guys thus far. We struggle most when teams can even be decent at both running and passing but ND has not shown that they could do either consistently.

You can't look at rankings. They blew out Navy. Purdue could stop the run and rush the passer with their front 4. MSU's defense is great. Michigan has Greg Mattison, who used NFL defensive schemes to confuse a young QB. We have Coach D, he's not bringing NFL schemes to fool anybody. We make every offense we play look like All Americans. ND's skill players a FAR better than any team we've played, period.

Their offense has struggled to put up points. If Miami was ranked 97th in offense everyone on this board would be calling for Fisch's head the way they are calling for Coach D. I don't care who you play if their offense was as good as you say they would be ranked much higher than 97. Yes our defense is bad, but that is no reason to overrate their offense as this point. They are average 3.8 yards per carry as a team. How is that a good offense by any means?

Troll...simple as that

Don't come at me like that player. No one hates these dudes more than me. I'm just trying to keep it real and contain my enthusiasm because I know this will be a tough game for us. I want to win so bad it hurts...but I'm nervous.
