Not sure where this goes.

Beyond the coaching issues - as far as recruiting is concerned I think we are heading in the right direction we are not that far off the pace...BUT, and there's always a but. If the team doesn't do significantly better this year, recruiting will become more difficult because recruits who have designs on an NFL career want to play in a successful environment and get a lot of good exposure. They want those announcers declaring that "he will be playing on Sundays".

Right now we have too many 2 & 3 *'s, with a handful of 4*'s and one 1*. If we don't significantly improve recruits will toy with us but choose to go elsewhere. The only other way to rectify this is to offer "play now" opportunities to those we can't lose. The real 5* players aren't afraid to compete for positions but the U has, IMO developed a seniority favoritism, as well as a brown-nose favoritism reputation, It's nice to emphasize character and all that but maybe we need players that are characters and have less character. If you want to play with the big boys you earn it on game day not in practice - wish it weren't so but it is. If the coach wants to be respected win or get a job as a loading dock foreman - where nobody cares.

good post.....I think Golden still thinks this is Temple and 2 3 stars can be developed in 4 and 5 stars on a whim....Denzel has proved this to a point..

Great player works hard but is not even sniffing the field in the 80s or 90s teams no less 2000-2004......he is getting better but he is still a 3 star guy after 3 solid years..hits like a truck but chases plays, never takes over a game. then look at Chick 4 star guy who well is playing like a 3 star guy after 3 years...could it be a supporting staff....ABSOLUTELY.....this year talent is improved at every position so if we get trucked by the Bottom feeders this year its easy to figure out

This is total BS re Denzel. If we had a whole roster full of guys with his talent and attitude, we would be in great shape.

read the post........he plays solid but he needs a supporting cast to be GREAT or ELITE....not his fault he has Olineman in his face every play or chasing WR down the field...trust me I AM GLAD he is back but denzel is no better than he was as a frosh....games and numbers prove this..

I did read the post. You said he wouldn't "sniff the field" in the 80's or 90's. Just not true. He's going to be a solid 3rd round draft pick, and would have gotten burn in any era. He may have been a 3 star but has played like a 4 star.

I am with you on that. No question there is room for improvement though. He was nowhere to be found against Louisville.

Never seen a board where a teams "fans" dislike their own team so much.
Congrats on turning another board to isht.

Its more of the coaches than the team imo. If we had proven coaches we probably wouldn't have half the problems we have.

Get me a QB that has it on the field and we'll be back. Until then we live in mediocrity..

I've never seen so many people swing statements into something completely off base. Noone hates the team. Many don't believe in the coach and don't see him taking us where we want to be. Since when is the coach the team? You keep rooting for Al, while the rest of us root for Miami.

I'm rootin' for the U and hopin' for Al & crew - all I'm really saying is we need to upgrade our recruits and find a modus operandi to do so. Either get the recruits by promising playing time, or by winning - if the personnel we have now gets us there by winning - we done and on our way. We should know early in the season if that's the case - if not, better start making promises for playing time. Reaction is to the positioning of the teams that recruit best in the original article that this entire conversation has been about. Not discussing coaching or any other factors and there are many - we have a metric - let's fix that part of the equation - recruit higher level players.

Also correction to my original post, I meant 1 5 *

A&M D line was very young last year. Probably as bad as ours. Typical $EC D line stuffs Duke in bowl game.
