Not sold on Fisch's Spread....

Not sure we have the personnel for a power running game. The line is fine but we lack a punishing RB and two big, strong tight ends with good hands. This may very well be the best we can do with the team we've got.

On this level, we have enough talent and makeup to be a power run team. We have big TE's and it's not like they're useful in the passing game anyways. The problem is lack of creativity. He did make some in game adjustments by getting some throws underneath the safeties. However, he's very predictable in the run game and UNC sniff it out most of the time. Don't get me started on the Wildcat. That ish needs to go.

Look, I understand it the hot thing and "everyone's doing it", but Im just not sold on this offensive identity. We have always been a pro set power run team with a history of great RBs. Saban is running it old school at Bama, and I think we should be doing more of that.

I feel like Fisch's offense has created a feast or famine situation. We have to air it out constantly, and rely on big plays, but we struggle trying to control the ball, the clock, and when we NEED to crank up the running game, the OL and team just seems to struggle to get in rythym. Mike James is NOT a Spread Offense back. Duke is dinged up, and small to be an every down type power runner. Our Wrs are totally inconsistent, and we have very weak TEs. I think teams have also figured out that if you bring heat, Morris will panic and roll out of the pocket almost every time.

Im just not sold on this offensive philosophy. Yes, we have been able to put up fast points against some cr@ppy defenses, but as defenses adjust during the game, we end up going through at least 2 quarters where we barely generate any offense, and a ton of 3 and outs, keeping our defense on the field WAY too long.

I mean right now, its the WORST of all worlds. We have a young defense with major depth issues, and we cant seem to keep them off the field at all.

A power running game requires a defense. Bama rarely scores on their drives. They are mostly a first down and punt team. The difference is they have a defense that allows them to play the field position game.

Mike pointed out something interesting. Do you realize that if UNC did not comitt those penalties, that they would have had over 400 yard of offense in the first half and about 700 for the game.

Fisch has no choice but to air it out and attack every play because our defense can not stop anyone

We ran 45 times for 180 and 4.0/carry, and threw 39 while trailing the whole game. The problem with the offense getting into a rhythm is the drops.

But he goes away from it at the worst times. Its like he HATES running, he seems to do it when he has to, but as soon as we get something going, he goes back to the pass, and gets us back out of rythym, especially when the drops start. Our WRs and TEs are the weak links of our offense. We have a HUGE line, I dont understand why we dont just pound the rock and grind down defenses. It would also open up the PA pass more.

You answered your own question. If you feel that your tightends and Wrs are your weak links, how are you going to run a power I and pound the rock? Teams will simply play an 8 man front and crowd the line of scrimmage. If James gets nicked up then what?

Our tightends are terrible. We would need to have a tighend that could block and catch.

IMHO, there are several arguments here that are valid. the drops definitely hurt, Fisch often tries to be too cute, and his play calling is often questionable

I approved the message!!!!

I have no issue with the spread. That's not our problem. Our problem is Fisch wants to be a pass first team. He is not committed to balance. He is also becoming very predictable I.e. bunch formation duke toss play. U see it coming from a mile away.

He also is substituting Duke into the games to early. Let MJ and the O establish the power running game then use duke as a change up.

Is it Me or is mike James playing super well with limited opportunities?

The constant toss plays to Duke were killing me. A few times a game is fine but not **** near every carry he gets. Duke can run it between the tackles 8-10 times a game and then a few toss plays to see if he breaks one.
