Look, I understand it the hot thing and "everyone's doing it", but Im just not sold on this offensive identity. We have always been a pro set power run team with a history of great RBs. Saban is running it old school at Bama, and I think we should be doing more of that.

I feel like Fisch's offense has created a feast or famine situation. We have to air it out constantly, and rely on big plays, but we struggle trying to control the ball, the clock, and when we NEED to crank up the running game, the OL and team just seems to struggle to get in rythym. Mike James is NOT a Spread Offense back. Duke is dinged up, and small to be an every down type power runner. Our Wrs are totally inconsistent, and we have very weak TEs. I think teams have also figured out that if you bring heat, Morris will panic and roll out of the pocket almost every time.

Im just not sold on this offensive philosophy. Yes, we have been able to put up fast points against some cr@ppy defenses, but as defenses adjust during the game, we end up going through at least 2 quarters where we barely generate any offense, and a ton of 3 and outs, keeping our defense on the field WAY too long.

I mean right now, its the WORST of all worlds. We have a young defense with major depth issues, and we cant seem to keep them off the field at all.

He is getting too cute sometimes. Not a good day for him. I'm not ready to give up on him either, but I feel you.

Good teams can run the ball and stop the run. Until we can do those two things reliably, we will be somewhere between inconsistent and God awful.

We have a big, nasty OLine and we don't use it. Instead of letting these big bulls fire off the ball and move forward, we have them lining up in 2 point stands and running sideways on lateral runs, allowing the Dline to shoot gaps and cause negative plays. We need to line up in a power I or offset look and smack teams in the mouth with Hagens, James and Clements. Once we do that, it will open up the play action passes and the screens/draws/tosses to Duke. Plus, bringing the DBs and LBs up will open up the deep pass that Morris loves.

Im not giving up on the guy at all. I think he's a smart guy, just a bit TOO smart. He definitely gets TOO cute sometimes, and he forgets what he is working with. Sometimes these guys are too smart for their own good, and they lose focus on the actual natural flow of a game.

Personally, I dont think we have the personnel nor the background for this kind of offense. Im also not a huge fan of it to begin with. I think its making our defensive problems worse. We are also really struggling to establish the run, and I dont see how we can be successful if we cant run the football.

We ran 45 times for 180 and 4.0/carry, and threw 39 while trailing the whole game. The problem with the offense getting into a rhythm is the drops.

It's just kind of annoying how he has no interest in establishing a power running game.

Yep. I feel like he's a better version of Nix. These guys cant seem to understand that you need a strong running game in order to set up a good Play Action passing game. That used to be our bread and butter. Since we moved to this half @ssed spread mess in the post Dorsey era, our offense has been inconsistent, and we have been a mediocre team.

We need to get back to UM Football, and we havent seen it in almost a decade.

But he goes away from it at the worst times. Its like he HATES running, he seems to do it when he has to, but as soon as we get something going, he goes back to the pass, and gets us back out of rythym, especially when the drops start. Our WRs and TEs are the weak links of our offense. We have a HUGE line, I dont understand why we dont just pound the rock and grind down defenses. It would also open up the PA pass more.

I'm not really liking the identity on offense. Its an "all or nothing" offense. If the defense takes the deep ball away, we're ****ed (which K-State, Notre Dame, and UNC did...combined 30 points in those games). If Duke Johnson isn't going HAM, we're ****ed. That is no way to live and die by for a team with one of the worst defense in the country.

I'd like to see a more efficient offense but I fear with Fisch, we ain't gonna have one of those.

Did anyone notice that when Williams came in, we went to the more traditional power run game and the pay action? We almost won t he game that way.

Its almost like when he dumbed down the offense, we were more effective. James established himself and ran hard. The play action actually worked. Can you imagine if we gave a heavy dosing of that and then threw it over the top? Why cant we see more of that? It wold be much easier on everybody and it would allow us to run clock and keep our defense off the field. I wish we called more games like we did at the end of this game.

Our TE's are non-existent. Bring back Dennis Erickson's one back offense and make the TE relevant again. Fisch needs to realize UM isn't the NFL and we need to get into a more up tempo offense.

We have TE's?

Maybe we'd be better suited to make them sit on the bench and bring in a couple more OT's. In fact, I'll be Seantrel can catch the damned ball! He'd be good for five yards time after time after time.

I don't think the issue is the spread as much as it is the dropped passes and the horrific TE's (who limit our ability to run wide). The red zone INT was a killer today as well. The offense moved the ball pretty well but we keep shooting ourselves in the foot with the dropped passes and the runs for negative yardage (in addition to the aforementioned INT).

Yup. Our lack of a TE receiving threat makes it very hard to run power-run/pro-style personnel. If defenses don't have to respect the TE as both blocker and pass-catcher, there's no balance. Pro/power personnel like the one you (and I) want is predicated on run/pass threat from the same sets.

We don't have those TE targets; few schools do. So we (and they) get their best pass catchers out there in more WRs and hope to run the ball by clearing space and spreading the field. Rather than block with more guys (FB, TE), you just cut down the number of guys in the box. I hate it, personally; requires too much lateral movement out of the shotgun, more QB runs/hits, and gets blown up in the backfield a lot. Hopefully we soon get to a point where we can run and throw from power I personnel.

Not in love with it. But I feel the staff weighed it all and said this fits to our strength...if you can call it that. Someone posted in this thread that we "have a big nasty Oline.". What proof is there that we do? Have you seen us going "big" and running inside the 5 this year and seen how many times it takes us to score? We all thought our oline would be great at running but their strong suit seems to be passing coverage. I want us to run as well, but I believe we don't do it cause our oline can not handle it.

If we didn't have all the drops, our offense would look so much better and I really don't think people would be complaining so much. As for the running game, I don't think our offensive line, as big as they are, are good enough for us to be a power running team that runs the ball 60 times. I mean, we ran a lot today, but there were too many times when UNC was in our backfield blowing up a play.

Not sure we have the personnel for a power running game. The line is fine but we lack a punishing RB and two big, strong tight ends with good hands. This may very well be the best we can do with the team we've got.
