not looking forward to next year if changes arent made.

The original post has merit, even though it is a beaten dead horse.

I feel Al has AT MINIMUM two more full years of eval if not longer. It will be interesting to see what Al does with the D situation.

Fan apathy does have a huge influence on the program and perception of it moving forward. If he stays with D'Onofrio and things don't drastically improve next year and the Admin. then forces his hand after next year, then he'll be breaking in a new coordinator in a pivotal year.

It all depends on how much faith Al has on HIS defensive scheme and the ability to teach it. If he wants to ride with it, it gives him very little wiggle room moving forward.

AG cant be that stupid. Ray Charles could see how this defense is. There is no more time... 3 years with basically the same team and horrible defensive results. Barrow, Williams, Jethro, DNofrio need to be purged

I'm excited abuot next year.. our studs will be a year older.. and hopefully will start being the major. players in our defense.

Every season is interesting as long as you apply the proper perspective. When we're bringing in the likes of Stacey Coley I can pay attention. Next year I hope to see newcomers of similar caliber in the defensive front seven, where it matters.

Nobody wanted to attend the Virginia game, apparently in some form of protest. Meanwhile, you'll still be here bickering about the Pittsburgh game, and then the bowl opponent, and then the bowl result, and later the recruiting prospects and aftermath. Attending that Virginia game was as close to a real world look at the product we're debating as we'll see for the next 9+ months, yet somehow it was considered smart or manly to stay home. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

We're 20 points from where we need to be. That's the way I look at it. Our top teams in the late '80s and early '90s were generally small underdogs at Florida State and with a Sagarin number in the mid to high 90s. This year we're 20 points shy in both categories. A reasonable goal for 2014 is to cut that gap by 7 points. That would mean being an 8-10 point underdog hosting Florida State and a Sagarin number in the 83 to 85 range at this point next season. That's the standard I'll apply. The preseason ratings, as always, are a vital hint. We need to be in the high teens for a likely shot at attaining that 7 point gain and staying there. Of course, I could always rant about Auburn and the opportunity for an astronomical one-season rise. That's always precious, hoisting the extreme example and pretending it's somehow relevant. There should be a message board laugh track in the background every time that type of thing shows up.

What does all that have to do with the defense remaining the same if D'onofrio returns?

You talk too much.

For the record I'll be perfectly excited for next season. I feel the TOTAL PROGRAM is moving forward in a positive direction. I'll be interested to see what improvements are made on the defensive end. I honestly don't care what scheme, philosophy, coaches, etc........ I want to see better execution. We need to be better on defense and if we don't see improvements next year it could get real ugly, real fast.

My post was in reference to these message boards the last month as a microcosm of Canes fandom, as well as the attendance for the Virginia game. Enthusiasm going into next season will probably be tempered if changes aren't made on the staff.

Little room for error if Golden keeps D'Onofrio. People already have their minds made up on him. Even if improvements were made, he will be torn to shreds at the first sign of adversity.
