Mario was hired before Earl Junior signed with Alabama. He was hellbent on Bama even though they offered him late and were lukewarm on him. He could have signed here and played for Mario.

As for the transfer portal. I don’t think we were interested. I don’t remember any talk about him at least.
Him and his father knew they were never going to play at bama.

FSU is f*ked for years to come.
In order to get a real fix they need to recruit really well but Mike doesn't recruit HS well at all.
In order to get better next year they need to massively overhaul their roster and go to the portal but that will exacerbate the "boom/bust" cycle they are stuck in now.

plus they and UF have Mario to contend with who soon will be able to get anyone he wants.
there is no quick fix that doesn't mess up the future for them..

Both F$U and Gator fans (mistakenly) believe the same thing.

1. If we just get 40 great recruits (Portal and HS), we can have a big one-year turnaround.
2. If we just fire all the assistants, we can get much better assistants and we can have a big one-year turnaround.

Neither are actually true in this situation.

A. The HS recruiting classes for both F$U and UF are falling apart. Early Signing Day is 5 weeks away. F$U is 1-7 and Florida is about to go 4-4 when UGa destroys them. There is no turnaround here.

B. The Portal class cannot be the source of all hope. F$U was good in the Portal when there was very little competition. Now that everyone (except Dabo) is hitting the Portal, there is no way that F$U will get double-digit turnaround/impact guys. And Florida is even worse with Slingblade having a WEAKER history of Portal results (except for the kids he brought with him from Louisiana).

C. Both F$U and UF have larger "culture" problems that cannot be fixed by 10 or 12 "mercenary" Portal players. They do not have a great basis of either "senior leadership" or "stacked recruiting classes" to blend into a group of Portal players that can yield a magical one-year turnaround.

D. The assistant coaches at F$U and UF are supposed to be hand-picked for their abilities. Both schools pay very high salaries. F$U has had stability AND SUCCESS with these assistant coaches, how did they suddenly become "terrible" in one off-season? UF brought over a bunch of guys from a successful G5 program and have supposedly supplemented with up-and-comers like Austin Armstrong and older guys like the Auburn guy they brought in to help Austin Armstrong.

E. Who do you actually HIRE as "replacement assistant coaches"? Neither Prison Mike nor Slingblade Billy have a coaching tree to rely upon, and at this point they do not have industry respect or non-hot-seat-assurances that would lead to a long line of coaching candidates to apply for these positions. Maybe they will try to find a bunch of "FSU alums" and "UF alums" to take these jobs?

F. The same "culture" problem is true for the coaching staff that is true for the players. What do Prison Mike or Slingblade Billy offer in the way of culture or coaching identity or "scheme" or anything else that sets them apart and promises the chance for immediate improvement. Or players? Sure, Slingblade Billy can (for now) offer up "DJ and Jadan" as potential building blocks, but both F$U and UF are at massive deficits on the offensive line. And the F$U and UF defenses are not so great that they are "sooooo close" to a turnaround that they only need some changes on the coaching staff.

It's all bull****. Both F$U and UF may have "better records" in 2025 than they had in 2024, but there will be no magical turnaround. They are both cooked. For a couple of years. And these head coaches at F$U and UF are DEFINITELY cooked.

Holy ****, their head coach is wearing tights.

Not only that, he’s running with tights AND a goofy grin on his face after he got ***** slapped up and down the field just a few days ago to go 1-7.

Man, you are just a full-blown hater, aren't you?

Those are special Spanx tights that were custom-made for Prison Mike by F$U's most successful alum!

I would argue that FSU is in worse shape than UF. That team straight up quit after the BC loss. That's culture rot. Plain and simple, and those kids all learned it last season after the "snub!" If those kids gave a **** about FSU, or Norvell, they'd have played that Orange Bowl game. It wasn't some crypto.com bowl in purple turf, it was a HUGE game. You can't portal your way out of that mentality. UF is not good either, but they are at least trying to win football games and are actually playing a little bit better.

All I know is, I wouldn’t send my kid to play for a guy who gives creepy back rubs, and prances around the practice field, wearing tights without shorts. All while probably only winning one game out of 12.

Where is that picture of him when he’s on the field, with that zesty posture, pointing somewhere, as if he’s getting ready to start a Broadway dance routine?

Agree, despite Napier. UF at least has a potential game changer at QB. They’ve done better at recruiting and are not overly reliant on the portal. As for NIL, they may be disorganized but they do have money. FSU otoh, is poorly organized and has money issues

What I love most about Memphis Mike is knowing how he is cooked as a coach. Their podcasters are now saying they don’t think he should be the head coach there. And does he have a cushy studio gig waiting for him? Can you imagine any of the networks pursuing that voice to talk to their viewers for hours on game day?

LOL, Warchant is now arguing amongst themselves.

The guy on the bottom (settle down @HurricanePhilly) gets it. Miami didn't just completely overhaul their entire offensive personnel. Most of it was already in place. One RB and one WR came in, but it can be argued Fletcher and Restrepo are better. Our OL was already in place. Carpenter is good but I don't think he is elite by any means. The talent was already there for the offense to be elite. Miami just needed a good QB.

Fsu has none of the above. They are in shambles across the board. No qb, no WR, decent RB core when healthy, decent TE in the Thomas kid, and disaster OL. Its not a situation where they can bring in one good QB and be an elite offense.
