Take a look at DL and LB and then tell me any player other than 52 that is beasting out!

It is impossible to expect much right now because of the poor recruiting at both positions (most of this is pre Golden era) and the loss of Eddie Johnson who is sorely needed right now.

So with the DL and LB we have going on now teams should run against us and hit the short routes they have been hitting.

Our strength seems to be secondary where 37, 26, 3, 2, and 1 have made solid contributions.

In short our defense lacks enough talent because of previous mistakes.

Pinning this on any one coach is absurd and the expectations we had after a 7-0 start where equally absurd -especially now with 20/20 hindsight.

Past players have pointed this out as well.

THE REAL QUESTION rather than all the bs about coach D is whether we are bringing enough talent to the mix and whether our redshirts (the few we have) will be able to contribute enough next year to help the DB's.

On offense the loss of Duke cost us at least one of those losses IMO.

We are where we should be. Better than before but still need horses to compete for a ship.

Recruiting is everything and we still sit on the most fertile ground in America.

Golden and company are recruiting. We need patience and understand that what we have right now is a product of NCAA mess and past poor decisions. NOT THAT HARD TO COMPREHEND IMO.

Golden gets two more years to finish his product and then we can point fingers. Until then I simply cannot bring myself to demand firings.

First I want to say why are you blaming Randy's recruiting for our defensive struggles when Randy's players on defense was the best that this defense has looked under Golden and Dnofrio. Are you going to say it's depth? Well guess what, Randy never had depth and his defense was never this bad. He was not given depth or talent by Coker and only had 2 strong classes. That was it and those players were only sophomores and juniors when Randy got the boot. Golden is in the same position as Randy talent wise and his defense is far worse. He started with Randy's Jr. and Sr.and has had 2 solid classes since. If you want to say our offense sucks and can't convert 3rd downs. Our offense under Randy was at an all time low and our defense was still top 40 every year in yards.

Second, you go ahead and show me how Duke's DL and LB are beasting out. Or maybe show me how UNC's DL and LB are beasting out. Show how half the teams ahead of us in the defensive rankings have a DL or LB beasting out. We don't need beasting out to be ok. We just need to be decent. Problem is we are not even decent on defense right now. These coaches are failing on defense whether it be development, scheme or a combination of both. Our defense looks exactly the same as last year which shows we made 0 improvement. There is no excuse for no improvement.

Did he really? I mean I recall reading that one article where all it did was contradict him... Coaches got mad at him just like how Booker T was mad last year at Golden... Coaches get upset when they think you overlook their players... They fail to realize that their perception of a player is not the same as the coaches HC... Really? Which game would that be? You're honestly saying the D giving up 42 and 48 points had nothing to do with the loss? lmao It'd be one thing if our offense didn't score double digits, but we scored 24 against VT. They average only 18.5 points against. So, we scored more than average against their 9th ranked defense. We scored 30 against Duke. They average 22.8 points against. So again, we scored more than average against their 36th ranked defense. Our defense averages 25.5 points against which ranks us 55th.

Bottom line, the worst defense lost both games.

It's not defending Shannon. It's showing how badly our current staff is doing that with a significantly easier schedule, and about the same talent deficiencies. If Randy was such a horrible coach, then what is that saying about Golden's crew?

We all say Randy sucked at player development and coaching players, yet Golden and his staff's best defense was with Randy's underdeveloped players and that defense still was not better than any of Randy's years. Makes me question how this staff is doing on the development department. Continually we all look back to Chickillo. I find it hard to believe that he is just a scrub when every school in the country wanted him. He had the potential to be a JJ Watt type player. High motor, not a burner, but enough speed, good size, but he has been used horribly. At this point, they've bulked him up so much, he would be better off moving him inside to DT.
