No Love for the Upperclassmen????

Uh, 4-8 is more likely than 9-3.

We're already more than a TD underdogs at Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Florida State. ****, we're not even favored over Boston College.

We have two guaranteed wins. Two. 9-3 is crackpipe.

I like Golden, but this team doesn't have much in the way of talent. Home field against all but FSU sucks, as we don't come close to filling the stadium. Things will again be great! But they're about to get a lot worse first.

We were heavily favored vs KSU last year.
We were favored to beat BC.

Don't base your expectations on what Vegas says.

This team is better at almost every position compared to last especially at QB.
With better Defensive and QB play this team at worse is a 9 win team.

You're high.

We are worse at QB, RB, WR, LB, CB & safety. OLine and DLine is a push.

Wow so according to Hawaii and canescanes we should all come back next and talk just everybody take the year off and root for another team.

Kool.

Reality doesn't work like that. This could be a special year with a nice group of upperclassmen who just need a taste of success to finally get over that mental hurdle and win consecutive games. That and developing all the talent and utilizing every piece of the roster. That will be how I grade the team fellas. I do not have on green and orange glasses, but I am not short changing myself or the program. I believe we can shock folks just because there is no way to go but up.

I think that LB looks to have much more quality depth than last year even though we lost our best LB in Spence

CB has to be better. I like what we've got this year athletically

S has better depth but not as much experience

RB is worse at this point

WR is worse

QB is probably worse right now

D line looks much more physical and deep

OL looks like a push pretty much

Except 6-6 again or worse.

We're more likely to go 5-7 than 8-4. We're more likely to be 4-8 than 9-3. The majority of the teams on our schedule are as good or better than us. Not for long, but definitely for 2012.

ok you're one of those. carry on then.

Upperclassmen get no love from me. None are elite or even close to elite in talent level and haven't done anything to convince me otherwise. I will wait until this season starts but no one, I repeat NO ONE puts fear into opposing teams. The only players I respect are Mike James and Allen Hurns. Stephen Morris and Curtis Porter are my "break out" players though. Just ready to see the "new era" of Canes and push the old ones out.

Miami has talent and Golden is good at developing that talent. We went 6-6 when starting the season finding out 8 players were suspended for the first game. If those players aren't suspended Maryland gets a beat down and you're at 7-6 and the entire season is different getting a win under your belt on the road to start. You could tell the team really wasn't interested in the BC game at all. Can you blame them when the school announced they were self imposing a bowl ban? That's pretty much two games right there that we lost because of the NCAA and the investigation.

Let's also not forget all the injuries last season to a team with no depth at all. Smith, Pierre, and Grimble were starting on the interior of the D-line for Christs sake. Seantrel played 200 snaps all year and Brandon Washington and Feliciano were forced to play Tackle. The D-line depth is night and day better than last year which will be huge and the O-line will have everyone playing their natural positions in year number 2 of Fisch and Kehoe. The base of both lines are set and it all starts up front.

There's older players at key positions that will also be the base of the offense and defense. The young guys are going to be asked to fill in some plays as long as injuries don't set in to badly. It sure as **** can't be any worse at CB than last year. Going in to last season we didn't know who was going to step up at WR and Streeter turned it on. I expect Hurns, Scott, and Dorsett to have taken that next step this year. We'll also have some TE's this year who should be much better which will add a whole new dimension to the offense. Last year the offense had a banged up Miller pretty much all season. You could see him go down or step out before taking a hit all season long. Mike James wasn't himself and Clements wasn't really counted on. Now we have a healthy James and a Clements that's a year older and Dallas Crawford who could be special in the backfield. Sprinkle in some Duke Johnson and the RB's could very easily be better than last season. Let's also not forget Hagens was injured last year and he's back healthy.

This team is going to surprise some people this year.

lol. Wait, so if we sit the SRs and play the younger kids, you're going to stop rooting for Miami? How about instead you root for Miami regardless of whether we play newbs or SRs?

Ive told you guys before but my son Eddie will have the biggest impact on the running game this year, hes really been busting his butt this offseason

I hope you are right. I think this team could make huge steps in attitude and culture for sure, as more and more of Shammin's influence wanes. Just dont know if it's enough.

I like him a lot actually. I like his team first attitude, and i like his versatility.
Hes really taken it up a level, ive never seen him this focused and looking forward to a season before. Im very proud of him

1st let me give a shout out to Peter Ariz. You are by far the #1 guy to go to when it comes to given real updates and information on the Miami football team. The MiamiHerald is to busy asking dumb@ss questions for them to actually have good info so this site is definitely top dog.

Alright now back on topic:

IMO, it seems like a lot of Cane fans, not just here, but all over the web, really dont have confidence in our upperclassmen. Some of you simply dog them by saying their "Shannon's recruits" as if Golden wouldn't have wanted these guys. These guys made Al Golden's cut the ones that didn't make it are the ones that we should label as "Shannon's left overs."

Regardless we seem to only care about what our freshman our doing in practice.... which is cool to me but I also feel like their are certain veteran guys on this team that will make significant strides this year and play major roles on this team. Our freshman will not be the reason we win the Coastal this year. Which I think we will win.... it will be these guys.

1. Mike James - He has always hovered around the 220 lb weight, but it seems like we have failed to realize how different this guy looks physically this year..... It was hard to notice that he was 220 lbs last year but now he looks like a Tank in a uniform. He is definitely poised for a major break out year IMO.

2. Eduardo Clements - I think Eduardo will be the reason Duke doesn't sniff 100 carries this year. His potential is being overlooked b/c he is squeezed between James and Duke, but he is probably the toughest RB we have. Remember he is a Miami kid 2, so he has that same confidence as the other Miami natives on the team.

3. Allen Hurns - It seems that people just think he is a possession wide receiver, but that pass he caught against V. Tech in the endzone behind showed me he can definitely be a playmaker for us this year.

4. Shayon Green - I honestly think, he can be better than Chickillo, if he can stay HEALTHY. That is his only knock, but this kid looks like a freak of nature. He looks like a smaller Allen Bailey.

5. Ramon Buchanon & Jimmy Gaines - J. Gaines is 6'3" 232 lbs and Cookie is 6'1 228.... I don't remember the last time Miami has had linebackers this big on the outside. Gaines is a very smart and solid linebacker and Ramon is an athletic Freak of nature.... It's been a while since I can honestly say that our linebacker unit wont just be one linebacker making plays w/ a bunch of scrubs on the side. Gaines, Buchanon, and Perryman will be a very serious threat to teams health and safety next year.

6. Curtis Porter - Honestly, I think we would have won more games, last year, if he was on the field. I literally saw this man blow up the USF line w/ one hand last year. If he can meet the challenge that the coaching staff has given him this camp, he will be the guy that Golden was hoping would seperate themselves from the pack.

7. Brandon McGee - He gets a lot of criticism.... But late last year, I really saw someone that can really be a potential lockdown cornerback. Now he might not be the kind thats going to have a lot of interceptions but I think he can blanket a receiver and make it difficult for a QB to try his side of the field. I definitely would trust him, right now, over Tracy Howard. You can't teach experience, and McGee is more athletic, at this point, as well.

note: Let me also say, last year he looked very weak and I understood why Coach D couldn't use press coverage w/ him and #41... Not anymore, this guy looks like he is 200 lbs and has guns for arms now. I expect him to really look and play the part this year at Cornerback.

8. Kacy Rodgers II - It's pretty obvious to say speed and quickness has been missing @ the safety position. Last year he wasn't ready physically or mentally. But this year this guy looks completely different and according to Coach Williams he hasn't "blinked" yet when it comes to being the guy @ the Free Safety position. I trust that this time around he won't freeze up when he gets into position to make a play.

9. Stephen Morris - I think this guy is definitely ready to be a leader..... I think the main thing that he will bring to the table that Harris didn't was his dual threat ability. Their won't be any hesitation to use his feet to make plays if he feels thats what he has to do. Jacory was so indecisive at running that I couldn't take it sometimes. Their were many times that our QB could have just ran the ball for big gains but Jacory just didn't want to do that for some reason.

I think when you look at the job Golden has done @ Temple as far as developing talent... I dont understand why we cant just accept the fact that Golden will turn all of these guys into better players for us. IMO it wasn't these players lack of talent that was the issue, it was Shannon's inability to run an effective College Football program.

Although our team has a lot of youngsters, we also have the perfect mixture of veterans at key positions that will allow us the opportunity to win a lot of games this year and surprise a lot of people.

we need more ppl like u posting on this board, this is all truth and reall talk, thank you

Like everything you're selling here except that I think Morris will be better than Jacory was last season; I do not believe he will be great though I'm hoping so.

I love Mike James, but I believe he lacks the quickness to be the kind of back the op describes. I do think however that he can be a very good back and that if we suck on offense it won't be because of him. Definitely on the Mike James bandwagon.

I've said many times(too many that it's become redundant) that I question how good James and Clements will be as I wouldn't see them starting for any team. They will be serviceable but as far as RB's that will be playmakers I don't think so.

Big fan of Hurns

Green- Can he stay healthy? Looks like an ox gets hurt a lot.

Gaines and Buch- Will see, I think Gaines would be better as a back up imo.

Porter- I think he CAN be the difference maker in the middle of the DL, hope he stays healthy.

McGee- No faith in him.

Rodgers- Although unproven i'm jumping on his bandwagon.

Morris- I think he's going be great.

1. Has been a solid player for us
2. Love his versatility
3. Solid Kevin Beard type receiver which is a good thing
4. Hopefully he can stay healthy because we need him
5. Gaines gets an undeserved bad rap but look out for Johnson and Kirby
6. Beast when healthy
7. Wanted him to turn it around, hope he does because we need him
8. Will be the MIP on the team
9. The goods, will have every Cane fan praising his name by seasons end.

i love this board, i joined completely by accident from a google search just before the mass exodus from canestime...I realize we are not supposed to attack posters just posts, but the one problem is if you don't charge for your content you wind up with trolls like canescanescanes...the sad but true nature of the biz...don't feed the trolls

QB play will be critical. If Morris has a good year, we will win 9 games. We have not had a good QB since Dorsey....think about it. A good QB hides a lot of sins.
