NIL

These deals have been happening for years in baseball. The international kids who sign at 16 do the same thing. For 90% of them it works out, bc they never hit it big enough to lose out on millions. But for the companies that do these deals, you only need one person to hit and you’re flushed with cash. The company that did this with Tatis Jr. had a pretty low hit rate, but since his new deal they are set for life.

Much easier to predict future success in college football players and tons of money to be made off of them.
This is the company that did it with Tatis lol

So would you characterize it as "NIL" or "buying a lottery ticket"? Not a loaded question, just trying to figure out if people think an "advance fund" dealing with a college football player with potential is really any different than a high school baseball player with potential.

This is exactly what you said it is. A payday loan for desperate and/or low IQ future pros. They got Elly De La Cruz as well. Their hit rate might have been low to start, but with access to better analytics they can be more precise about who they target.

Now that the hustle has been exposed, there is no excuse for anyone to willingly choose to deal with them, especially at the collegiate level.

@TheOriginalCane

Lottery ticket it aint nil.

I do think they give funding for training and workong out or something.

Your lst pragraph is what confused me about folks still signing because pretty much they were outed in the Tatis situation article last year.

Like it was on yahoo or one of the big play forms its how i saw it.

I don't think lottery ticket is accurate. I read how much analytics goes into their decisions on who they support and it has to meet their criteria of being severely undervalued by the current ranking system for guys in the minors

For you attorneys out there, how can this be considered an illegal contract causing it to be voided?

1. The provision of money to an amateur athlete, whether as income or as a loan, violates NCAA rules and, depending on the state, state laws as well.
2. The contract is set up to derive a percentage of eventual professional salary, and these types of arrangements should fall under the laws regarding agents, for which the advance fund is not registered as an agent.

Whether they have a "system" or not, it's a lottery ticket. It may not be Powerfall, maybe it is Pick 4 with higher odds. But it is still a process intended to offset a bunch of losers with a few big winners.

I also think where they screwed up is tying it to his football earnings and not limiting it to endorsements. This is not something new in sports, they could have tied it to his name and likeness and been his "managers" like Shaq did with ABG

https://afrotech.com/shaquille-name-and-likeness

Literally the headline is Shaq sold his rights to manage his name and likeness. ABG is one of the bigger dogs doing this but they even own % rights or licensing rights for Monroe, Bob Marley, Ali, etc. Seems like this is what that company was somewhat envisioning but said F it and made it like a payday loan. Now if they gave him hundreds of thousands of dollars and in return got 15% of Gervon Dexter's name and likeness profits (definition TBD) then I think that is much closer to a NIL but not this... Especially for a kid that barring injury or something crazy was getting drafted.

Caleb might tell Cardinals thanks but no thanks. I could see Deion saying same thing to Shedeur.

I got a question for you guys.

If it was between UM and taking this 10.5 to go else where.. could you let your son turn it down?

Clickbait. I would need to see and read the offer for myself if it was my son.

I think it would be VERY likely only a fraction of the "10.5 Million" is guaranteed. It's not unreasonable he is staying at LSU because the real money offer between the two is in the same ballpark.

It’s most likely a 4y/10.5 deal.. if true of course. But also not far fetched for a school like Michigan.

Yeah, I am pretty sure it's a 4y deal. I still don't think this HS QB is going to be getting Cam Ward money even if it is Michigan.

I would imagine it is probably structured similar to an NFL contract with some escalators and clauses that can ultimately amount to 10.5 million over 4 years but just signing with Michigan alone isn't one of them.

Pretty sure Dave Portnoy of Barstool came out somewhat recently and said he’s willing to contribute a couple mill per year to ensure Michigan can pay NIL to a QB. Who knows how true it is but I imagine he’d probably keep good on this for a couple seasons at least.
