Before the start of the season, I liked Miami's Stephen Morris enough to make him my 17th-best senior prospect when I released my Hot 100 in August. At the time, I felt he had the skills and upside to emerge possibly as the top QB prospect by the end of the year.

Fast forward a few months, a stretch during which Morris has struggled and thrown nearly as many interceptions as touchdowns, including four recently against North Carolina, and his status isn't quite what it was this summer. In my updated midseason Hot 100 a few weeks ago, Morris fell to No. 38 and would probably be even lower if I updated the list today.

What happened in those 3-4 months?

From that article:

Miami at Florida State: Miami is a big underdog -- one of the biggest underdogs in a game between two teams in the top 10 since 1995, when No. 2 Nebraska was favored in a big way against No. 8 Kansas State. I don't see it being close. I like the Seminoles to win with ease, probably by as many as four touchdowns.

Maybe he'll give up his blogging gig and be the next Kelso Sturgeon if he's such an adept gambler.

I swear I have yet to see anyone who even thinks the game will be close, most are predicting and ***-whipping, are we all just blind homers?

If we weren't Miami fans we'd be predicting the same thing looking at this game objectively.

They killed Clemson, so they will kill us. That's how it works. Automatic. If I'm The Don, I take the forfeit.

"Looking back, my preseason evaluation of Morris was more or less like grading a prospect who looked very good throwing the ball at the draft combine, when there is no pressure and no threat of contact. You get a feel for what a player can do -- for example how quickly he can get rid of the ball -- but you, of course, want to see him show those skills against live competition."

Makes me laugh. Yes, message board posters are typically complete fools (myself included), but this dude acknowledges his previous evaluation (thrown around here as authoritative) was based on...not much. If this isn't a big reinforcement of "let's discuss what we see, even if we're amateurs on a message board," I don't know what else to say.

I appreciate and respect that he basically called himself out. Interestingly, I think he bought high and sold low. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle of where he's chasing this around.

HYPE HYPE HYPE...what has better ring to it nationally FSU vs Alabama or Oregon vs Alabama.
The storylines Nice Saban vs his former apprietice. Saban went after Jamies Winston hard, he knows everything about the kid's makeup.

To sell it in the minds of the voters to move these guys up.

Not one person is taking into account style of play and matchups. they are looking at it one sided. FSU offense is better than our defense. I will stand by this, their defense is vastly overrated. They are great at forcing turnovers. But they are running a 3-3-5 which is built to take on spread teams. We ARE going to run on these fools. It will come down to Morris Not turning the ball over.

I can't wait to see Sentrell and Erick Flowers get their hands on that little rat Joyner. FSU's toughness has not been tested. I don't know if we are going to get a chance to test that but I hope we do.

I think we're going to lose because our senior QB is playing terribly.

Predicting a 28 point deficit though is just insulting.

I appreciate accountability from a sports writer too. It is a nice thing to see.

Sorry, Gil is of the same school as Louie Holtz - fossils, has-beens, going through the motions and slinging **** for a last paycheck. The guy was always more PR/back-slapper than talent scout.

Morris can make his money back in the next 2 games and the rest if the season. If he balls out with all those scouts in attendance I can see him getting drafted early.

I mean I never thought ponder or Manuel would be drafted in the 1st round

Pretty much.

We don't have a reliable QB.

FSU does.

You can put and entire team of all-stars on the offense, but if your QB can't keep up with the game, you lose.

Actually, if next week goes well - they'll have two chances. + I don't care if I'm a homer or not - there's just no way I see them beating us twice in one year. It's just not gonna happen. We are vastly improved from last year when we hung with them, I think the conditioning is improved and our guys have shown they dont know how to quit all while they haven't been tested for a full 60 minutes. the talent disparity is not that wide. If we go into the fourth close or up - we win this. FSU is perennially overrated and we are perennially hated. This match up will be worth the cost of the ticket.....and I like our chances. I think SM can pull it together in crunch time.
