Next year's defense

I wouldn't move Lockhart to Safety (AJL, neither). I think those guys can be difference makers at receiver.

Let Jenkins and Carter duke it out (and Burns if he doesn't move to CB).

Either way, Rodgers and Highsmith will get one of the starting spots due to experience.

They may both b difference makers on offense, but we only have one at safety. We have 3 guys redshirting at receiver already, how many receivers do we need? Theres only one football. We need another difference maker at safety, and Lockhart was a very good one in high school. He will instantly have the best ball skills in the secondary. What if Bush gets hurt? With your theory we are one injury from disaster at safety. God forbid 2 guys get nicked up, were screwed. Gotta stop playing JAGS and find diff makers.

I'd rather not stunt Lockhart's development by having him switch positions. I'm just not really a fan of that.

Between the 4 returning players and the recruits coming in, we should be okay there.

Next year will be much of the same I suppose, with a deep list of players getting burn until "stars" reveal themselves - especially at DL - like other posters, I think our lofty expectations wont be met until our DT fill out - the good news is that there are going to be four waves of DT - 2 Seniors, 2 Juniors, 3 Soph, 1/2 Frosh (Bryant, Senet?, can we afford another Grimble like body in Bostwick?)

As for DE, I'm not sure what we are looking for - another JHamilton/Briscoe type or Tim williams type (is TW better than McCord as a DE prospect because TW is lighter right?)

Will players like Thomas (pray lol), Holliet, RWilliams, McCord be able to generate pressure in the scheme

LB will be sick and ill sort themselves out - I hope we see some creativity in packages of players to take advantage of S/Weaknesses of players but all in all, the versatility should be outstanding and players should be interchangable - next year will be the first year we would even have numbers to practice running a 3-4

DB - will sort themselves out - tackling, tackilng, tackling (TH, DB, etc)

Looking forward to how O'Donnell looks after another year of UTough.

McCord, too. I feel pretty confident about the DEs we have coming back. I think Green and Cain will see their roles diminished.

The big question is DT.

If Porter can stay healthy (HUGE "if"), we just need one other DT to step up, and we'll have a respectable DT situation. Obviously not great, but not some Sun Belt ****, either.
