News story of Alabama HS students (racist content)

This story isnt something new, I live in the Bham area however I was raised and went to school in south FL. My kids attend a local high school in Shelby County AL and its not just a racism thing, the schools have all kinds of rules regarding these issues as well as other social issues but there is no enforcement of the rules when the kids get caught especially if they are athletes. The parents of these kids put them on such a pedestal that they have no fear of any consequences for there actions and like a previous poster said if you do hold there child or the parents accountable there will be legal action as fast as you can blink. It is very confusing that we dont hold our kids accountable and then get mad or are shocked when our kids act like fools. We can never control what our kids do when they are away from us as parents however we as parents need to lay a solid foundation on how our kids need to function in society.

Not to get into politics or anyone's beliefs but the Bible says, "spare the rod, spoil the child." The moment kids had more authority to administer discipline than the parents, society crashed. I am not referring to abuse but kids and adolescents need to be spanked. Sending them to "time out" lulz or to their room is facking joke.

My kids are in the Oak Mounatin district here in your same county. Trust me, the other parents weren’t too happy when our, and a neighboring apartment complex with lots of us minorities were added to the schools. They hoped we’d be a Hoover address. Definitely a ton of accountability issues goin on in this neck of the woods.

I dont ever condone abuse on a child, my wife and I started ours out very young and I am very proud of my kids. They are kids/young adults now and am very proud of what and who they are becoming. They still have there moments as all will but they know when pops gives them that look they better turn the attitude around or there will be consequences. I havent had to do any major discipline to mine in a long while however they do know that no matter how old they are that there pops will still tear that tail up if need be. My dad is 79 years old with one kidney and on dialysis three days a week, im about 5 inches taller than him and out weigh him by 50lbs and I still honor and respect him to the point that I dont want him tearing my tale up an I am 46.

Absolutely agree. I back talked to my granny ONCE. My grandfather hit me (firm but not with force) in the jaw and said, "don't ever back talk to your grandmother again." It never happened again. He was a judge and still is the longest sitting circuit judge in the state Florida. Today I probably could sue him, it's insane.

Great to see you on here and I am sorry for the ignorance in AL, I tell my son all the time that when I grew up in So FL I didnt have black friends or white friends or Hispanic friends or whatever race you want to insert we were just friends. The N word was tossed around as much then as it is now however my AA friends and I had respect for each other and were more like family and yes I interjected that word with them when we hung oout and cut up, there was a respect among us though and it wasnt offensive to them at that time. Now if you were an outsider and came in using that word an *** whipping would soon follow from both white and black boys. I dont use that word now that I have gotten older because there isnt any use for it in my opinion but I am old school in a lot of ways and my 305 attitude is alive and well here in the 205 alot of these clowns around here need a 305 *** kicking and that might solve alot of these problems.

Two different local news anchors used the phrase "Martin Luther Coon" in January, and they both said it just slipped out and they'd never used it before. All I could think was that it never would have slipped out of my mouth because I'd never heard it before. Nobody I'm related to or am friends with would say something like that. So the best I can say for those two is that they should choose their friends more carefully, but I'd be surprised if they don't come from racist families.

The anchor I saw from New York completely said it on accident. I'm not about to label him a racist. I haven't seen the other guy you're talking about

I'm **** near albino I'm so white...and I've said some goofy stuff trying to make jokes in the past that in hindsight were probably racist. BUT - I never did/said anything with the intention to hurt anyone at all. These days, I'd rather poke fun at myself and my blindingly white complexion (thanks German/Irish ancestry). I think that's where folks like me and these kids you see in the video are different - I think they're trying to be actively and willingly bigoted and hurtful because that's what they know and that's their culture - even if they try to distance themselves from that culture when they get caught like this. Dead honest - my best friends through HS and even to today are a mix of every race/creed/color out there. I like it because it keeps things in perspective in this crazy world. There's not a lot of diversity at all where I live unfortunately, so that's why I like to travel - especially to Canes games because you see a little of everything that this world has to offer in our fan base.

For the life of me, I just don't understand wanting to continually put someone down because of their race/creed/color. It wasn't because I was raised in church (I was - though I'm happily unaffiliated now), it wasn't because my parents weren't racist (love my mom, but man...she showed it a little sometimes)...I think it was because I always tried to empathize with people. Understand their struggles, no matter what. I think that's what we lose a lot of times is just empathy and understanding of our fellow man. The world would be a better place with more of it. I will say this though - if I'm trying to talk with and understand someone, and they start talking about pure races or wanting a theocracy (or both)...I tend to stop listening to that nonsense and walk away pretty quickly...:LOL::LOL::LOL: Being or believing one thing doesn't make you any better than anyone. There isn't a "master race" or "one true religion", IMO. In the words of Michelle McNamara (Patton Oswalt's late wife), "it's chaos - be kind".

If kids want to go up there, then that’s their and their parents decisions. But please don’t tell me you’re going to be reppin the 305 or South Florida. NO!

You’re reppin the klan.

I get it. The cash, the apartment, the cars. Fine.

But you lose the reppin the 305 card as soon as you cross the county line headed north to kkkville.

Racism is everywhere blah blah blah.....

.....but that doesn't mean Alabaga ain't a backwards state that still widely clenches to their Southern "heritage".

Look no further than 72% of white Alabagian men and 63% of white Alabagian women that recently STILL voted to send a pedophile to the United States Senate because he played to those ingrained sensibilities.

Btw, one can also rant for hours about some of the effed up beliefs and practices and hypocrisy in places like Brooklyn and Portland and Seattle and San Francisco but that still doesn't negate the fact that racism and some other faults are still more prevalent in SEC Country.

You can't know what's in another man's head but...

Pretty weird that a guy who gets paid to talk for a living can't control what comes out of his mouth. But my point was that you can't accidentally say what you don't know. He's familiar with that phrase and I doubt it would have slipped out if he weren't pretty comfortable with it.

I see folks on here calling people racist for having different political views or just a differing opinion but somebody actually using “ coon “ for King isn’t? That’s not an accident, they’re never used together unless it’s derogatory.

I agree that it’s very serious labeling someone a racist or calling them that , you shouldn’t throw that around unless there’s no doubt, but this is kinda blatant.

This just in there are racists in Alabama and apparently all over the world! In other news man landed on the moon, and consuming heavy amounts of alcohol can cause people to be inebriated...
