Jared McClure...how did you guys miss this one?

I still have a VHS copy of the 2000 recruiting class highlight vid. Jared McClure, TJ Prunty, Willie Dixon, John Square, Derrick Crudup, David Williams, Willie Roberts, Alton Wright. Some obscure names mixed in there with Willis, DJ, Vilma, Wilfork, Myers, McClover, Carlos Joseph..

How the **** I don't get repped on Jared McClure reference I'll never know...guess the majority of the cats on here literally had no clue who I was referring to.

He quit school to become a model for Abercrombie & Fitch. McGahee ran him over and **** near killed him during a scrimmage.

Jeff Popovich also modeled for A&F. Add him to the list of guys this kid reminds us of.

Had a chance to see Andrew McClelland on the field at the camps - Agree, has VERY deceptive open field speed, reads the offense & commits about as good as anyone I've seen so far - has all the pieces - could be an impact player IMO.

Anyone know of a walk on we've had in the past that ended up being a beast and earning both a full scholarship and legitimate playing time as a starter? I'm not talking fentress and those guy, I'm talking like top shelf players for the U. Just curious.

UM doesn't get many walk-ons because it is so expensive, but Carlos Huerta is a member of the UM Sports Hall of Fame. You may object that he was only a kicker, but in terms of determining wins and losses, he went a long way.

From the linked article:

Huerta, the starting kicker on Miami’s 1991 National Championship team, emerged as a walk-on and became a consensus All-American and First-Team All-BIG EAST selection. Huerta, who later played with the San Diego Chargers and Chicago Bears, established an NCAA record with his 157 consecutive point after attempts (PATs) during his career as a four-year starter (1988-91).

He ranks second on the NCAA’s all-time scoring list with 397 career points, including 73 field goals. Additionally, Huerta still holds Miami records for career PATs, career field goals, career points, the top three records for consecutive PATs in a season, the top four records for field goals in a season, the top three records for points scored kicking in a season and field goals in a game.

During his four years as a starter Huerta led the team in scoring each season. His foot was a significant reason in historic victories, such as hitting a field goal with 43 seconds remaining to give UM the 31-30 edge over the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor in 1988.
