Seems they are looking at Dodge Island. I know they don't want a mixed use stadium, but with today's technology you can create a stadium that meets both the needs of soccer and football. That location is about 10 miles from campus.

2 good to be true, so it wont happen.

The new stadium will be constructed as a soccer stadium and will only hold 25k. Not the answer for Miami, then again, neither is Sun Life.

Don't give a ****, if there's so much as a 1% chance, the University needs to make a push for it. It's a terrible situation when just about your entire fan base hates the stadium you play in.

This is an opportunity that needs to be pursued by the university now. Beckham's stadium is legit and it's going to happen. The push will start soon by the parties involved. The U's participation and involvement can be in the mix. It can be a 45k-50k stadium. UM needs to get proactive

they're looking at a 25k stadium that can expand when needed but it wont be to the 45-55 we would need.

MLS model for stadiums are in 20-25K seat range, and they would prefer for soccer only.
Move on.
Next.

They will not build a 50K seat soccer stadium. read the paper

I readed the paper. Not stuck on 25k. it will be considered the expansion . The footprint allows it The issue is to adjust the design for 45k- 50K. from current 25k design, but need additional events and/or UM's involvement. We have an opportunity, if UM approaches this. My information is very legit.

MLS in Miami is the worst idea ever. Only people that would think this is a good idea are international stars who have fun on South Beach. Nobody would ever go. It would be worse than the Miami Sol.

I think if we win and win consistently that Sun Life will get a better turnout. I think we'd face many of our attendance problems wherever we went. Miami is a tough town to draw because the people are fickle.

w how soccer has grown and the way ppl have attended recent soccer events, its not bad. SLS set the record for most fans at a soccer game in the state and the last time we had soccer, the fusion played in lockhart. building a nice soccer only venue (w a good team of course) could work in miami w the large latin pop here and growing popularity of soccer.

Beckham wants 75K. If Miami is really interested in exploring this option I am 100% on board. James response is much different than his previous ones when asked about stadium and SLS lease.

There are restrictions on size but with city giving $0 perhaps they could at least approve a size hike to 50K. UM could give a small portion of the cost to be a partner in stadium and collect larger revenue share than currently. I know a lot of ifs but not so unlikely. What better way for a small private school to back its way into building a stadium?

PITTSBURGH – Asked in August about the possibility of playing at Marlins Park, University of Miami Athletic Director Blake James panned the idea.

“It’s just not feasible,” he told The Post.

If a baseball stadium wasn’t an option, a Beckham stadium could be.

James said Friday he is interested in the idea of moving to a stadium built in Miami by a group led by David Beckham.

“We would be interested in exploring any opportunity that makes sense for the program,” James said as the Hurricanes warmed up at Heinz Field before playing Pittsburgh.

To be clear, UM moving to such a stadium is a scenario that is far from reality.

Beckham, the now-retired international soccer star, recently asked the City of Miami to consider allowing his group to build a soccer stadium at PortMiami, a site off the downtown coast. The city has yet to approve the venture and Major League Soccer has yet to give an expansion franchise to Miami.

What the potential stadium could look like is unclear; the Daily Mail (U.K.) reported this week Beckham envisioned a 75,000-seat stadium, while the Miami Herald reported PortMiami had enough space for a building of around 25,000 seats.

Then there are the hurdles UM must clear. The school is five years into a 25-year lease it signed at Sun Life Stadium. Breaking that lease would create a significant legal battle. Also, UM likely would not wish to play in a facility of only 25,000 seats. UM’s average attendance at Sun Life this year is 53,785, its highest total since moving to Sun Life Stadium in 2008.

James said UM officials have not spoken to Beckham’s camp.

We need to push this. This seems like our only real shot. What can we do? As fans to get some momentum going.

45-55k seat stadium is ALL we need. Add endzone seating for FSU games & call it a night.

The revenue we'd gain from having a REAL homefield advantage will be seen in more than just ticket sales.
I'm convinced we have the worst home field advantage at Sun Life (regardless of how many people showed up).

At the OB we didn't pack the place for weaker opponents... but the seats were on top of the field, the stadium was architect-ed better than Sun Life, and it had a better atmosphere.

Properly designed soccer stadiums are REALLY loud by design. I think Oregon(?) took that model in the building of their stadium.
