Biggest news we got this week is that Perryman has been moved to MLB, Gaines to WLB and Cain to starting DE. I think that's a great move with Perryman and Gaines.

I don't know about moving Perryman, but I think we have better balance with Gaines out of the middle.

Gaines and Cornelius at OLB....man.

On a positive note, I love the look of the offensive line.

oline looks fantastic, hopefully they can all stay healthy and have the year they should...i know how golden plays all those mind games with the depth chart but do you guys actually think highsmith has a chance at starting?

I noticed that Dyron Dye isn't even on the depth chart. Could he possibly be so bad at DE that he can't help out there????

(Or maybe he's injured and I missed the memo... if so, please disregard)

Dye ended lart year at TE.

Would like to see us get Perryman and Kirby on the field at the same time.

Also notices that AJ Highsmith was ahead of VT.

That starting OL would be massive.

Kirby is now the backup in the middle. I'm not going to count Gaines out yet. I think he was misplaced at MLB and looked good at WLB in his true freshman year. Even in spots this year, he was much more productive at WLB when Spence moved inside. At the very least someone is going to have to give great effort and show some skill to beat him out.

Can anyone here give some insight on McDermott?

From all accounts the kid has been playing outstanding at center and there is a 0% chance anyone else takes the job from him, even though some people are clamoring for Linder to get a shot.

Horn was an unsung hero on the line for us and it looks like McDermott is set to outperform his expectations as well.

I always thought RRA was the SS and VT was the FS. Really wondering why Highsmith is ahead of VT though. Cornelious is a shock for me he is a bit undersized and think Eddie Johnson is much better. I dont see Ricardo Williams on the depth chart.

I thought Horn was servicable. Nothing more. Nothing less. Would love for McDermott to step up and solidify that center role. Seems like we haven't had a really good one since Romberg.

I have a lot of confidence in McDermott at Center and I don't think there will be any drop off from Horn.

If you recall, last Spring Horn and McDermott were listed as co-1st teamers at Center for much of Spring. All accounts had McDermott performing as well as Horn. Obviously Horn ended up being the starter (incumbent) and he was one of the main captains and representatives of the team (along with Spence) so there wasn't going to be an active controversy/competition going into the fall. Remember McDermott was just coming off of his freshman year (where he RS'ed) and was competing with a rising senior. As long as McDermott has it upstairs to make all the calls, I think center position will actually be improved this season. Horn was solid, but McDermott is stronger and stouter at the point of attack. The coaches are obviously showing some confidence in him with shuffling going on everywhere but center.

Looking forward to seeing the OL take a step forward this year (and consist of guys who all have 2+ seasons remaining!)

all I remember was McDermott being great in HS..he was just a little small and needed to gain some weight

Yup, heading into the Spring I was pondering the idea of Gaines as a better WILL and Perryman better suited for MIKE. I am a big fan of the Perryman move to the middle. I actually believe Perryman's skillset (now with some experience) fits the MLB spot better than Spence did.

I believe Gaines will be a solid starter for us for the next couple years. He has some size and athleticism and I don't expect him to be a standout, but I don't expect him to be a liability either. I would like him to be utilized at the OLB spots (W and S) and leave the middle for Perryman and Paul.

The coaches clearly want most of the LBs to have the flexibility to play more than one of the spots. This makes the unit more durable in facing injuries. I think Kirby is impressing enough to warrant some playing time, but you don't put a Freshman at MLB. Perryman at MIKE can open up the door for Kriby to compete for some PT at WILL with Gaines and Paul.

I really like Cain developing into a hybrid role of DE/SLB. He has the frame to be 240+ for this season. He has some experience rushing the passer and the athleticism to play both spots (3-4 OLB as well)

I think he was better than serviceable. He was an all conference selection and a solid player for a couple of years. Definitely no Romberg though.

I got a good feeling about Shane and its nice to see his younger brother getting a lot of attention already for 2014 recruiting.

I doubt both Gaines and Cornelius are starters week 1. gotta think that Ray Buch and or Kirby will take their spots (fingers crossed)
