New Breakdown.. Chickillo vs. V-Tech!!!

The optimist in me wants to believe that all that conditioning and stength work will translate into less injuries. If you're in better shape and stronger than your competitor, you get hurt less... Under that scenario, we can have a pretty good 1st team, with Chick, Green, Porter and Smith. Our challenge is who will replace these guys if someone goes down. We have a lot of bodies. But nearly all are in their first or second year.

That was a lot of plays for a True Freshman DE. You could easily see he was often just physically overmatched. Almost scary because we're going to see a whole lot of True Frosh this year.

5Ringz very well said. Add to that the fact that while playing out of position we did very little in the way of coaching them up - almost no development from our players during their time with us. Jacory got worse until Jedd arrived by then the damage was too great to overcome.

I'm so glad we aren't recruiting 215 pound LBers to play DE anymore

God bless Marcus Robinson's heart

We've signed some pretty light dudes who project to be DEs the past two classes. Ricardo Williams, McCord, Hoilett, and two LBs have become DEs. And the big DEs we signed last year are both DTs this year.

although on Robinson I felt bad for the man. I always felt a big part of him getting banged up a lot was him playing DE when he should have been at LB from the start. Body couldn't handle that extra pounding over a full season.

Rico Williams is 6'4".....him being 215 pounds at 17 is fine. He is now weighing 245 according to reports

Marcus Robinson was barely 6'1" and 215 pounds.

There was no reason for him to have played DE here. Ruined his football career.

It's ridiculous how most all players under Shannon played out of poisition

Mrob should've been a LBer

Ray ray should've been a LBer

Cookie should've played Safety

Bolton should've stayed at safety

Kacey was a safety from the start

Jacory should've been one of the goal posts

And so on

Agree, but also slightly overstated IMO.

The further a player is from the trenches, the more likely he is to adapt quickly to the college game and contribute immediately. And I don't think we will be seeing much of freshmen in the trenches this year (perhaps one DE in the regular rotation). The freshmen I expect to see most from are Tracy Howard, Duke Johnson, and Raphael Kirby.

Has a Canes freshman DL ever played as much as Chick?

From the second half of the year on, he literally played every snap.

I can't remember one. And he has put on good weight and transformed himself. Kid be outstanding this year.

He is going to be a difference maker this year! If the DT's play well, the D line will surprise!
